I've searched around, it seems like most the sound deadening threads relate to which product to use or how much of the product is needed.

Is there any how-to out there for using dynamat to sound deaden our trucks? How hard is it? How long does it take? From the pictures it looks almost like some kind of thick tape that you just press onto the surface, is this right?

 

Sort of. It reminds me of silly puddy. But you basiclly got it. Just apply it to the desired area and press it on. You can buy a hard rubber roller to press it on. I know Dynamat makes 'em. You could find it where ever is Dynamat is sold. You will also need a utility knife.

If you do your doors, take the factory plastic off first. You can even use that as a template.

 

Hrmm, for kicks I called Best Buy, they install dynamat for $20 a door (labor only, ill buy the dynamat on ebay). Not a bad price if I just want my 2 front doors done.

 

First off Dynamat is overrated and over priced. Check out SecondSkin it is better and cheaper. Scond you can do it easily with some time. The doors are the hardest because you need to get into the inside in some parts to get max deadining. You will also need to basically rip the interior out to install the rest. Order of important areas is as follows:DOORS, ROOF(if your up to it), REAR SHEET METAL AROUND THE REAR WINDOW AND SUCH, AND THEN THE FLOOR.

Second Skin sounds pretty good.

After the sound deadening is installed, will my truck be much hotter inside? It would seem like if I added a ton of insulation then ventilation would be severely limited. How bad is it? It can get pretty hot here in the Summer.

How many square feet would I need to do my entire truck?

 

Well the floor and rear sheet metal already have insulation from factory. the real change will come from the doors which will be minimal. Temperature should not be a problem. You need to measure off the floor, the doors, and rear and give you some room for error by gettin a few extra feet.

 

I'd recommend SecondSkin a thousand times over. My whole truck is covered in Damplifier and the difference is quite significant. I wouldn't worry about it getting too hot... it seems to insulate well without hampering ventilation or anything. It's very easy to apply and gives much better midbass and much clearer sound. The doors also make a nice solid "thump" when you close them instead of the tinny "bang" sound they normally do. I used 120 sq. ft. and that was enough to do the entire ext. cab and then do another layer over about 50% of the cab. If you are extra careful, you could probably do the entire cab with 80 sq. ft. but 90-100 sq. ft. would be better, just to be safe.

 

Have you ever read the reviews Dynamat extreme is the best product on the market but it is very expensive. There are plunty of other good products for cheaper but if you want the best.

 

That is a typical comment off a brand shopper...I dont look at reviews as much as I hear results. I have heard many of the Dynamat series including the extreme as well as Second Skin. Second Skin is much better than the Xtreme Series IMO. Just because a review says its good doesnt mean its good. Reviews are biased in so many ways that im not going to get into.

 

I guess I failed to mention that I have used as well as had experience with several different products.

 

O well i guess I could say that sony xplod is awesome because it has great reviews by people that have no idea what they are talking about. Everbody that I know and all the systems i have done contain second skin.

Cookies have nothing to do with this...and dont really understand what the second comment is but you can look at my sig and see what is in my Reg Cab truck that everyone said wouldnt hit and i can safely say it does.Never sayed i was an expert just kno a lil about audio you could say.

 

What does it do on the TL?

 

I have yet to take it to a place with the TL set up. I can pretty much tell you that it is around 125-130 peak which is good considering i still have a passenger seat and all.

 

I guess we have a difference of opinions. I don't really consider anything below 140 good.

I hit a 143TL with 10" L7 on 600 rms, hopefully it will do better this year because its getting 1400rms (or I will just nuke it).

 

you obviously did not understand the whole single cab box idea but thats cool. My system is mainly set up for SQ but does SPL ok. Sealed box against your obviously massive ported box and you should know. You are by far the most ignorant and full of himself guy that i have ever talked to about audio. My truck is not the best i have done. When i have room to work with i make pretty crazy stuff but i guess compaired to your record shattering system they suck. 143 out of an L7 thats unheard of. Wow you compete. O well.

 

I never said I was a car audio god by any means. I understand the concept of SQ and in my systems I try to combine the best of both worlds. My box is not huge but its designed to do what I want and peaks around 47hz. You can have plunty of SPL out of a sealed box if you do it right. You are the one who originally called me out on being a "brand" shopper. I know there are far better scores out there out of L7's, I am not ignorant.

 

Its hard to make a sealed box "right" behind the seat of a reg cab. Ill try and get some pics today or somethin. Keep and eye out in the snapshots and such. Sorry about callin you ignorant it was late and was venting my bad. I am soon putting the 500s in a ported box for the new car i am looking for haha. I need to get it on the TL soon.
