bad interference

well for some reason when the trucks off my FM signal is real good then when I turn the truck on it gets crappy, start hearing poping and snapping...I checked the back and the antenna is in good.

could it be a loose ground wire?

Trigger01 02-17-2006 06:49 PM

Darn Fords there's always something wrong with 'em. It could be bad wires.. There's a truck @ work that the radio doesnt like to work on unless it wants to... I think the wires are bad....Truck has been beat to hell and hen some and Looks like poopy.

Well I got the standard one year warranty I got it for Christmas and I still have everything that came with it. their extended warranty was a 2-3 year plan and was expensive...I'm gonna call today I'll tell ya how it goes hopefully they say I can bring it back

quest51210 02-20-2006 03:40 PM

if you got the manufacturers warranty they are gonna tell you that you are SOL and you are going to have to send it out yourself to the company. i know i was BBY management

2003stealthedge 02-20-2006 03:51 PM

check your ground and make sure your speaker wires arent exposed

dangerranger 02-21-2006 02:19 PM

there is something in vehicles called a radio choke it prevents interference through the radio if this goes bad you will have bad interference. when the truck is off nothing is running and the radio choke doesnt have to block anything that may cause interference thus y it works when the truck is off. we just learned about this in autos so thats all i really know about it.

GrafixGuy 02-21-2006 09:40 PM

well you have any idea were it is? I swear DO NOT BUY A KENWOOD!!!! for the price I paid this CD player don't do S**** I'm so pissed right now...their stupid site is so unhelpful they don't even list my model anymore the radio is only 3 months old????? WTF???? there is nothing wrong with it And I'll sell it if anyone asks I'll take $230 for it, this is for ppl who want simple interface and simple adjustments... I wanted something I could tweak, this thing has the stupid basic treble mid, bass...thas all I GET/????????? paid $249 for it and thas all I get is a basic CD player????

I've never had a problem with Kenwoods at all. And if it blows so bad... why did you buy it in the first place? Just building off what others say, make sure your Grounding is good. If your grounding is not good you will get a ton of interferance from everything in your truck pretty much and if its hooked up to another ground you will get a terrible ground loop.

fuze 02-21-2006 10:09 PM

Something under the hood could be poorly grounded...

EDIT: Oh yea, tune to an empty frequency to listen... When the popping/hissing starts, does it follow the RPM of the engine at all? Is there any high pitched whine in there too?

quest51210 02-22-2006 02:18 PM

yeah did you buy it off the net and not ever get to play with it first?

GrafixGuy 02-22-2006 02:45 PM

bought it from best buy :( It took me about 4 days to get it off demo mode, thas how bad the directions are....at the time he said those were the best selling CD players I rode around today and the CD aint that bad its just the FM...I'm going to go check my grounds I think thats what it is I hooked some fog lights up and I added them to another ground that ran to my aftermarket headlight harness, should I start there? I'm getting tweets this weekend so that will help with the sound clairity :)

Electric fuel pump was a problem in older Rangers, and the general conditions of the grounds and what not is always an issue in an older truck. Might want to to take apart, clean, and test the ground straps and cables in various places and see if that helps.

There are usually ground straps between the body and the frame, and the engine and the frame. You may find others as well. It's a start.

quest51210 02-22-2006 05:03 PM

while you are at at might as well upgrade the grounds. if ya gonna do it do it right

n3elz 02-22-2006 07:41 PM

That's a good idea -- better than just cleaning up the old ones.

GrafixGuy 02-23-2006 02:57 PM

where do I get that from? is it expensive? the Grounding kit?

--I checked all the grounds in the engine bay dunno where some of the others are I just checked the basic ones, with the green bolts near the battery they are all fine...its getting annoying and its not my speakers b/c when I put in a CD its great
