Trying to plan a system!

Ok so for christmas i was looking at getting a system or part of a system. I'm looking at replacing the head unit, door speakers, and putting in subs and amps.
I was looking at this HU
Sony CDX-GT740UI CD receiver at Crutchfield.com
and these subs
MTX ThunderForms Custom-fit subwoofer for 1999-up Ford Ranger Regular Cab (4-door) or SuperCab at Crutchfield.com
is there any specific speakers or amps you would recommend? Also has anyone tried these subs or that enclosure before? I can't seem to find any reviews.

the box is great ive had one for over 3 years now, but the hu is not much man exp if you are gonna push a couple subs. sony, jension, or jvc arnt what they use to be. id go with either alpine, kenwood. may be more, but you would build a house out of tooth picks and bubble gum. as for speakers id go with poineer or those mtx.

I love my Kenwood KDC-794. The excelon series Kenwoods are a big step up over entry level

Honestly, when you're building a system, you don't want to cheap out.

well i really want subs because i want to have that hard hitting bass. so i want to go for subs and amp first. now one question is should i have one amp for the subs and another for the speakers or do i need one for the speakers?
also which way do those subs mount? it looks like they mount with the subs facing the floor, is that right? wouldn't that muffle the sound?
I've never done any audio work besides installing a different HU in my truck and my dad helped with that.

maybe somethin like this one
Alpine MRP-M500 Mono subwoofer amplifier 500 watts RMS x 1 at 2 ohms at Crutchfield.com

ctrutchfield is a jip usually
this deck is better then the sony imo and has a higher pre amp and is cheaper plus its premier
Pioneer DEH-P610BT (dehp610bt) - Car Stereos with Bluetooth - Sonic Electronix
for an amp make sure its a class d
the box set up is nice, but check ebay stores because youll get it way cheaper

I run a 1100 watts for my two 10" down firing subs @ 4ohms so real world about 200 each hits fine. 1000 watts for my two rear door speakers @ 2 ohms real world 400 watts and 1000 watts for the front speakers also 2 ohms so around 400 watts also.
Seems to be enough but anything past half volume my girlfriend complains. I don't know what shes is complaining about as I can't hear a word she is saying.

I have never personally had any issues with my Sony CDX over the last 3 years - but I can say it woudl be wise to find a headunit with HD Radio - its free, and is a -HUGE- improvement over stock. My biggest issue is that with ym current headunit, it will run me about $130 to purchase an HD radio setup, which is sort fo a downfall, considering there are cheap @$$ headunits that cost around 70 bucks that have internal HD radio inside it.

Resistance is determined by the speakers you are using i.e. 8 ohm, 4 ohm etc. and how they are wired for different impedance.
Here is a link to a site that should answer any questions. Basic Car Audio Electronics and here DIY Audio & Video - FAQs, Tutorials, and Calculators for Speaker Boxes, Crossovers, Filters, Wiring and more and here Parallel Series Speaker Wiring Diagrams - Car Audio .Biggz.com

Good luck!

so im still looking at amps and since there are two subs does that mean they split the watts or do they both get the full wattage the amp puts out?
