Battery ordeal

well... i installed a 10" sub and a 400 watt amp into my truck last night. during the installation we had to jump start the truck because the dome light had been on the whole time and drained the battery. well on the way home i stopped to get gas.. when i tried to start up the truck again, the battery was dead. i got another jump from a good samaritan and went home. when i got home i set my battery on the charger all night and thought it would be okay. when i tried to start it this morning it didnt start. same problem. In the 1st case.. my battery was already fairly weak and it came up marginal on a test back in february of last year... and its a few years old (maybe about 4), 2nd case.. i did everything right and i have installed several systems before without a problem like this one. today im gonna go see about buying a new battery, but does anyone have any ideas as to if it could be something else?

if batteries discharge all the way down a couple time then they lose their power

try an optima yellow top(deep cycle) or the likes, they are not really made as a starter battery but can be used as one, a red top is a better starter, but isnt deep cycle

deep cycle lets the battery be ran down without out causing harm to it

i have a blue top whihc is the same as the yellow, but blue top is a marine and can be found cheaper

Just like Bobby Joe Duncan...whatever said, lol. If you drop them down much, they die.

Optima's yellow top is not a tradtional "deep cycle". The plate structure is actually a hybrid between a starting battery and a "true" deep cycle, giving you the best of both worlds. In many cases, the D25/75 (the yellow battery for most Rangers) gives you more CCA than your STOCK battery did.

I have a red-top now, as the result of a deal with a guy at work. It's the 25/75 in the starting style. The nice thing about these is that this model has both kinds of terminals. I now have the stock automotive connection on the top posts, and all my accessory stuff on the side terminals. Neatens things up considerably.

hey guys... i got a new battery after takin yalls advice, and it worked out great. this battery is freakin massive... some like 800 CCA's. a little overkill i know, but in the morning... i know it will start good and strong. (and the sub works great too, i blew the fuse but got a some new ones and no problems)

what brand battery and how much did u pay? I wish it was FL members that werehaving Batt problems I can hook yall up big time!

it was nascar brand... or something like that. i think it was $80? i dont remember, my dad was the one that found it and bought it. its really big. i had to mess with the battery platform thing, and bend metal, and all sorts of other crap to make it fit. but itll definitely do.

There are 2 types of blue tops. One has a dark grey bottom, and it is cranking, and a light grey which is deep cycle.

i have the 34d for deep cycle, the light grey
