Blank Infotainment Screen, broken radio= big bill
Blank Infotainment Screen, broken radio= big bill
Dear All, I am hoping someone can help me as i feel my Ford garage were trying to rip me off and charge me 2000usd for a broken radio. I live in Malaysia and I have a 2018 Ford Ranger 3.2L Wildtrak with 25,000miles on the clock.
Last week my infotainment screen went blank with no visible reason why, i checked all the fuses and connections, tried the power and forward button rest but nothing.
I took it to my Ford garage where i purchased the car brand new to be informed that there was a power surge from my battery that fried the mother board and my battery was not working, so needed replacing!!!!
I went in person to speak to the manager that if the battery was not working then the car would not start, i then wanted their diagnosis in writing so i could take up the issue with Ford direct which they then back tracked and admitted it was not the battery and showed me a diagram of the part that needed replacing (part 18 in the attachment) and i have also attached the diagnostic report. My car is just out of warranty i am extremely annoyed getting 2k bill for something that should not be breaking.
Is this a common fault??
Is there a way i can get ford to replace the part for free as this sort of thing should not breaking at such a young age?
What would be the best plan of attack in dealing with this issue?
Any help/advice would be appreciated.

Welcome to the North American Ranger forum
We could never get your T6 Ranger models here, ours were 1983 to 2011 and smaller trucks
We do now have the 2019-2022 full size Rangers, but its powertrain and electrics are different than yours
I would try Australian Ranger forums, they have your model there, and forums are in English, there are a few
Warranty is the warranty, if its over then you pay to fix it, if its not then Ford pays to fix it, if its just out of warranty then Ford may grant you a "grace period", it's free to ask them
As far as something in a vehicle breaking after 3 or 4 years, it can happen, on any new vehicles
You can look up recalls but I would assume the shop already did that
I would try Australian Ranger forums and see if its a common issue on the 2018 T6 models, that might be an IN at Ford if its a "known issue"

Thought i would give you an update as had an interesting outcome,
I refused to accept that the APIM was broken at such a young age, so went back to Ford and asked them to give me a reason in writing.
At which point they brought the car back in, opened up the APIM casing and realised there was a very small bit of moisture inside it, they cleaned it up and it started working again, so from trying to charge a ridiculous amount to replace, they gave me my working car back with no charge.

When you live in an area that averages 7.5 inches of rain a month and high humidity, you kind of expect moisture getting into everything.
