Blow through subs

Anybody have their subs in the bed, and ported into the cab, or have a blow through?

I'd like to see some pics of them and have searched but not found much. There is another name for... but I can't think of it.

i dont think ive ever seen that on a ranger, but one time i saw an s10 with that set up...he had 4 15's

it was louder than my system is 200 yards away :biggthump

My friend was wanting to do that with his 93 ranger. Hasn't had the time or money though. I think it seems like a cool idea if you have an extended cab and a fiberglass bed cover.

ScottG 08-13-2006 02:37 PM

premierranger99 has one in his 99

bamaboy 08-13-2006 05:02 PM

my friend has a blow through in his tacoma, he uses a bed cover

but ive seen people spray the box in rhino lining stuff to make it water proof

but i think they are cool and give you a good bit of options

That would get stolen 10x faster than an in cab stereo here.

KARPE 08-13-2006 05:48 PM

not if it was done right, plus if you have the means and money to hack up the cab and bed then you have the means and money to conceal it.

its call a hard cover that locks?

Bumpncarstereo 08-14-2006 05:52 AM

yup, hard cover that locks, and some nice brackets to hold it down. i saw one that was disguised as a tool box that held 3 15 or 12 inch DD subs, amps, crossovers, neons. all that stuff.

i did that two my f 350 it was a reg cab no room for subs i cut 2 8 inch round hole's in the bed and cab used a 8 inch round inner tube and rivited to the cab and bed for flexing and some epoxy had no leak's and no rust had this set up for 4 years with no problems made the box and had the amps in it . iam going to do this to my ranger soon

It would definatly be bolted down and thus a huge pain to *try* to steal, but I wonder how they sound compared to simplier systems. I'm not going any bigger than 2 12's and it's more about never using the bed to carry things, and always needing to carry things in the cab.

Strider0O0 08-14-2006 02:06 PM

there was a guy with a first gen ranger who worked at an audio shop near me. he had a cap on the bed and had 6 15" memphis subs (forget what model). the rear window was taken completely out, and he used a flexible rubber boot, like you'd normally use for a blow thru. the rear sagged badly, lol. it was a shame, some lady t-boned him before he could ever get it finished. i sat in it once and thought i was going to explode from the pressure.

KARPE 08-14-2006 02:33 PM

you could always mount them in the cab floor like that one kid hahaha

i will be working on a setup like this real soon

I had it in a nissan I just sold. It never sealed correctly and if you drive it daily and dont need the bed then stay away from it. I had it in a show truck and it was pretty much useless and every time it would start to sprinkle I got worried. If I were to do it again I wouldnt have done a bed cut.

lol thats what i thought.

this is a perfectly legit and safe method if done right.

How are they going to steal my subs if they are mounted in a sheet metal box, that is welded to my bed???

if it is welded correctly, and sealed well, it will never leak, and be just as vulnerable as your head unit sitting inside your truck, if they break the window, they will have access, but its not like anyone could just reach into my truckbed and remove my subs...there isnt a way to get to them inside the STEEL HOUSING.

on a 97 splash I did for a friend, we actually used a bike tire inner tube and duct tape to seal the cab/bed transition. When he gets leaks, he just pumps up the inner tube more. Kinda ghetto, but totally works and is (except for occasionally) leak-free.

Urandaman 02-12-2007 01:51 AM

my friend just traded a bagged body dropped s10 for a 98 single cab hard body.. the WHOLE back wall of the truck is gone and has a camper shell on it.. it has the occordian style boot/gasket/whatever you wanna call it, around the opening between the cab and the bed/camper shell. he has a wall of 4 15s along with amps and other speakers.
leak free, other wise all his amps would be ruined since they are right under the rubber piece.

heres pictures to the tool box/speaker box/amp rack that was mentioned... this was done by a shop by my old house... saw the install in person while i was up there.. DAMN!
