Blowing my friend's doors in.

Alright guys so my friend has a 1997 Dodge Ram 1500 Regular Cab. He also has the infinity sound system in it. He just added 2 Kicker Comp 10" subwoofers with an Alpine 80 Watt Amp. Naturally, he thinks he's the coolest cat on the block and according to him he without a doubt has the best system in town. It honestly doesn't sound too great.

Now, my goal is to figuratively blow his doors in. I want my truck to sound twice as good as his does. I have a budget of $1000 and I need a new head unit, 4 speakers, 2 subwoofers, and 2 amps. I am going to make the sub box myself so that's not a problem.

I'm asking if you guys could throw some system ideas my way. I have researched all around and I just cannot make a decision. Any help is appreciated. Thanks again guys.

Rockford Fosgate subs, MTX amps.
as far as head units go, you'll have to ask someone else, I didn't set up my system, just wired it.

why two amps? more of a waste than just one amp.

I agree, even though I have about 1200$ in my system I would never spend what I did on the subject again. going from what I have, you'll need more than two cvr's and a 1000 watt amp although, my subs will rattle your brain hahaha.

$1000 dollars got me some decent 31s and some really nice Eagle Alloy 058s.

I suggest you do the same, better investment, more truck props. Sounds systems only impress yourself and bros. Chicks dig big tires lol

Dude, I dont think I could have a loud, bassy system.

Death metal, blast beats and deep vocals dont go well with pounding bass lol.

That's why I got a sub that just accents them a little haha. I think incredibly loud bassy systems are overrated but OP if it's what you want go for it!

So, would you recommend a small amp and sub?

I just got the Infinity Basslink. Easy to install, userfriendly, and is perfect for metal imo. Just adds a little punch with the bassdrum but can pound pretty hard if you want it to. Plus its fairly inexpensive.

The sound I was going for was how the stock explorer system with the sub sounds, just balanced really well overall.

On stock trucks they are pretty big. They are huge on my 2WD and they are perfect on stock height 4x4s and Edges. Plus regular people (chicks) don't know the difference between a 31 and a 33 or even a 35.

Yeah after a bunch of research i'm beginning to notice that loud bassy systems aren't great. would you guys recommend replacing the stock speakers before or after adding a sub + amp?

Check out the Soundstream Tarantulas for subs. They'll beat your brain out of your skull if you do it right. And as for speakers, look into Hertz, they sound amazing, and Hertz Diechi series are made to run on stock power. If you can afford them, go with the Hertz Millies, they're the best sounding speakers i've ever heard, and I work at a pro mobile audio shop, but at $800 for 2 , they're a budget killer . As for head units, I'm partial to Kenwood Excelon, but Alpine is good too.

uh, cvr's aren't really "pieces of ****". although they aren't "high dollar" or "ear bursting", they do what I expected of them and thats all I care about. and since you want to be opinionated, I think you're a dumbass for spending 3k on a system.

oh and might I add, if I wouldnt have gotten a deal on them, I wouldn't have them. so therefore, it was kind of one of those deals.

with 2 15s and over 6k i better do 150.

iv heard that SS has gone down some. IMHO the DC lvl 3 is going to be better than the SS. and i like pioneer H/Us, alpine is great too and iv heard good things about kenwood also.
