Building a sub box and cut the hole too big
 

I'm building a sealed enclosure for two 12" Polk DX series subs. I got the subs free basically and they were in seperate boxes. Didn't like the way they sounded so I decided to build a box. Went online and got the manual from Polk, it said to cut the hole at 11.6. So I cut it a little smaller thinking I can always take more off. Is there anyway to salvage the box? Anyone have any ideas? I am so pissed right now.

Nope just rip the front off get new piece of wood and cut again or you could get bigger subs.

I guess that's what I'll have to do. I glued the hell out of the box. Not to mention the silicone to seal it. It's going to be a huge pain but better than building a whole new box.

Dude I would flush mount the subs. Cut the hole big enough so you can fit the sub through and then make a ring that the sub can sit on and mounts to your peice that you incorrectly cut. I'll go and try to find some pics of what I mean. I flush mounted my sub, but I did it intentionally and love it. I would recommend that you route the outter hole so that it looks nice around the sub.

That's a great idea. I would have to cut the ring in half in order to get it in the box but that would be much easier than taking the front off. I like the idea of a flush mount anyway.

and travis btw I used bolts, along with glue, to connect the ring to the outer board. I drilled holes through the face and ring and then counter sunk, so the bolts would sit flush with the outer face of the box. To fill in around the bolt head I filled it with this stuff my friend recomended called "kitty hair". It's like bondo with fiberglass in it There were dowels in the pics because they are used as temporary support while doing the fiberglassing. Also I would highly recomend routing the outter ring, look much more professional. Hope this helps and have fun.

yeah do the cut the hole bigger thing and make a flush mount, i personally flush mount all of my boxes. or you can remake a front baffle and glue it on top of the messed up one. when i build a box for a new speaker i have never used i always check the manufactors specs and then take 2 levels one each side of the basket and level them then use a tape and check the distance.
