cant decided on sub box design
 

Ok I'm having a terrible hard time deciding on what sub box design I want build and use in my extended cab 2000 ranger. I'm planing to put it behind the passenger seat and in front of the jump seat(dont want to remove them) on the floor on that side.

I will be using a 12" Pioneer TS-W307D2 400 Watt RMS sub in the enclosure with a requirement of .85 to 1.75 cubic feet.

I basically trying to decided between two options as of now:

the first one is a sealed wedge shape that's 17" W x 16" H x 13 1/8" D1 x 10 3/8" D2(1.25 cubic feet)

The sub woofer will be facing the back of the passenger seat which might be a problem with some passengers as the will get a massage ;)


The second option would be a sealed rectangular box that's 13" W x 16" W x 17" D(1.5 cubic feet).

The sub woofer will be facing the side towards the drivers seat in the back with the backside of the box close to the rear passenger door.

The problem with this option would be the size as I wont be able to lean the passenger seat back and its pretty narrow for a 12" woofer. Also would it produce good clean bass facing it towards the drivers side?


Anyone have any suggestions on which option would be best to go with?

i would go with box 1, its the right shape allowing people to still tilt their chair, but does it still allow the right amount air space inside for the sub

ya, you dont want to put a big square box back their, you wont be able to lean the seat back. after a while it gets annoying and thats why im sealing my sub and box

Sub up port to the side (if you want ported).

There is plenty of room as long as you dont expect to be able to lean the seat WAY back.

Box one, I had a square box for a while but then my passengers would always pull the tilt handle and push back. Eventually it started to stretch the fabric on the back of my seat, and I said that's it I'm building something custom!

Thanks for the response everyone :) I think i am going to go with the first box since it will give me more room to put the seats back.

Too bad my pioneer amp wont fit on the side since its wider then the box. I'll probably have to put it on the back wall were the jack is located(not sure i want to screw it in though).

The other thing i got to figure is how I'm going to mount the box in the back passenger side. I would prefer to not be putting screw holes in the cab, seats, etc(in case i trade in my ranger). I've heard velcro mentioned before but would that really work? or maybe there is some bracket that will go onto the jump seat brackets without modifying them.
