Which CB?

I need to get a new CB for the BII. I am looking at these 2 Cobra's. Which one would you get?

- 18 WX ST II:

I like this one because of the front mount speaker. That eliminates the need for an external speaker. This one also has weather channels.

- 19 DX IV

With this one, I would need an external speaker to hear it well. This also has a PA output in it incase I wanted to install a PA speaker.

What do you all think?

04blackedge 05-05-2008 11:23 AM

I would go with the 18 WX, think of how many times you would really need the PA for something important. I think that front speaker is worth it too.

lifted97ranger 05-05-2008 11:26 AM

Yea the extra $20 is less than I would spend for an external speaker, and then finding a good place to mount it:crazy:

04blackedge 05-05-2008 11:28 AM

Very true, I rarely ever use the weather feature on mine.

lifted97ranger 05-05-2008 11:30 AM

It might be worth it when i get more into taking the BII off road.

Rangerguy 05-05-2008 12:10 PM

Aye, go with the first one, I really like the front speaker and weather channels. I been looking at CBs for a while now, I think Im'a get the same one for my Ranger.

lifted97ranger 05-05-2008 12:22 PM

Yea I am going to order it off Cobra's website today or tomorrow.

RockysFord 05-05-2008 12:30 PM

I had the the 19.. the front mount speakers suck... you can buy an external for under 5$...

I would go with the last one, or find a cb shop and go buy a cheap used, peaked and tuned 29...

Rocky

haha this is funny..My friend has the first one in his Tundra and I have the second one in my Bronco...I would go w/ the second one for sure. The front mount speaker is nice but it is no louder than the 19...oh and BTW..his has messed up already and he doesnt even hardly use it...mine is still clear as the day I bought it....save some space and go for the 19 man!

ScottG 05-05-2008 12:39 PM

i have the 18, got it from rocky on a trade

its just sitting in the garage. Worked great when i had it in the ranger

lifted97ranger 05-05-2008 12:40 PM

Wanna sell it Scott?

enraged_hunter 05-05-2008 12:57 PM

i have both pf them and i prefer the 19 dx, for the simple reason i never used the weather alerts and the 19 is smaller by far so you are not as restricted as to where you can mount it

lifted97ranger 05-05-2008 12:58 PM

How much deeper is the 18 over the 19?

RockysFord 05-05-2008 01:27 PM

Save space, get the 2nd one, mount it somewhere... and get an external speaker.. and be done...

I want to say the 18 is about 2inchs longer than the 19?

lifted97ranger 05-05-2008 01:31 PM

That is good to know. The 19 will be on order shortly.

RockysFord 05-05-2008 01:40 PM

Well i must be wrong... Looks like thier the same length...

On that web cite it says

Cobra 19

Length: 7
Width: 4.5
Height: 1.75
Weight: 1 lb 3.9 oz

And the 18

Length: 7.0
Width: 6.5
Height: 1.88

lifted97ranger 05-05-2008 01:41 PM

Dang I guess I could have looked at that:crazy: I didn't see that on there before.

lifted97ranger 05-05-2008 01:46 PM

Well crap, the local Pilot Truck Stop (about 8-9 miles from home) has the Cobra 29 Classic for $69.99.
http://www.pilotcorp.com/Images/Cont...rent_Flyer.pdf

And the local Love's Truck Stop (right across the interstate from Pilot) has a Midland 1001Z for $29.99
http://www.loves.com/Portals/0/docs/...ers/Flyer1.pdf

I dunno know!

RockysFord 05-05-2008 02:05 PM

If your still undecided.. i would really go to a CB shop and buy one.. truck stop ones are junk and only reach 10ft.

All the time in columbus you can flip the cb on and all the shops are advertising for channel 24 or others... flip over and ask where they are located and go meet them... They'll fix you up..

Hell if you were still in columbus i would take you to the one i deal with called "teddybears cb shop" guy named "grasshopper" hooks it up if he knows you...

Rocky

lifted97ranger 05-05-2008 02:06 PM

Mine i have now sucks. I can't get out across the street. I have googled and googled for CB shops in Louisville with no luck.

RockysFord 05-05-2008 02:11 PM

hmm, well if the flying J or Pilot is down the road, i would just go there and maybe as a trucker....

But your best bet is to not waste your money until you find a good one... i paid 160$ for my cobra 29... and another 60 to get it maxed out and tuned... and i can talk pretty far out...

Rocky

lifted97ranger 05-05-2008 02:13 PM

I know my dad can reach up to 15 miles on his 29.

I got my 29 for freeeeee. I really would just spend the money and get one though Maurice, they just don't compare to the little plastic radios. Look Rocky was saying, on my way back to school I heard at least 3 truckers advertising 29s peaked for sale for a good price. Just something to think about...

timpat92855 05-05-2008 02:51 PM

i got my cobra 25 for 50 and its peak and tuned and has talk back installed...i get out there a very good ways but kickers are great ha
