Get two 10ft whips like this guy in my town, 84' Chevy Silverado short box, 12" lift, 35s . . . 10ft whips on the roll bar . . . you see him comin.

Anyway like said magnet mount is great for highway or city driving but as soon at you get into low places that require that antenna to flew you S.O.L., if that's you get a metal antenna or real fiberglass whip (better IMO).

Good antennas:
American = http://www.walcottcb.com/firestik-ii...lue-p-904.html

Canadian, or not so patriotic (I hope I spelled that right) =

how do you tune the antenna with the radio?

sniper_101 07-17-2006 10:35 PM

Your tune antennas with an SWR meter, some are cut to tune and others are tuneable by the tips. You can by individual SWR meters or buy a good CB with it already built it, lucky RockysFord with a Cobra 29 :moon: If ya ever get tired of all that quality . . . I got a spot in my truck for it lol.

If you get a francis (sp) they are the best mountable antenna's that you dont have to tune....they come pretuned and you really dont even have to ground it......if you want a magnet mount go with the wilson "little will" mine takes a beating and has never fell off.....

K40 also makes good antennas. The K40, is equivilent of the Wilson 1000, minus the 1000's power capabilities.. The K40, will handle around 400 watts PEP, and the Wilson 1000 handles 1000 PEP. PEP is Peak Envelope Power. Any antenna with a loading coil, has a power rating. If you're going to run LOTS of power, go with a 102" whip. They have no coil, and you can run unlimited power.

102" whips are 1/4 wavelength. A full wavelength CB antenna would be 36 ft long! Put that on your bumper!

But in all honesty, if you want to talk good around town, go with a Little Wil'. Any magnet mt antenna should be placed in the CENTER of the cab, on top. Now, it don't have to be, but for good performance, and ease of tuning, that's where it should go.

Wilson & K40 also make tunable, yes you heard me TUNABLE "firestik" type antennas. Most guys put these on thier bumper, or up next to the cab. Next to the cab, you're going to have SWR issues. There's a guy on the site somewhere that makes custom CB antenna brackets that go beside the tailgate, and will get your antenna up above the metal.

Like I said, if you want to talk good, go to your local truck stop, and pick up a Wilson "Little Wil" and a good radio. Tune out the SWR, and keep the air hot!

Go here: www.copper.com

I have dealt with Copper before. They are in Louisville, KY. Good service, and the techs there can also tune up your radio for a fee.. and unlike some truck stop CB shops, these guys actually KNOW WHAT THEY'RE DOING..

I used to have my magnet mount on top of my truck, but it hit everything so i made a mount on the back corner of the bed...bolted to the inside, its a 1/4 inch thick piece of steel and the tip of the antenna sticks up above the cab by 5-6 inch's so it still clears it to get out far..
