Considering swapping out old door speakers and leaving standard cab rears alone

Hello All,

I am a frugal type of a guy when it comes to spending money on myself. If I don’t need it I generally don’t buy it and if I have it already then even more so.

I do have an old pioneer head unit that seems to be okay, and I just fixed my old windows 8 computer so that my iTunes will run again. The old pioneer unit has an iPod connection that sounds good. Probably better than the Bluetooth Amazon music I was considering upgrading my head unit to handle. But I fixed it, so I don’t need it.

I wanted to update the door speakers and possibly the rear but think that the rears wont matter much in a standard cab as the seats block most of the sound.

Should I just get 2 or spring for 4 decent speakers for the girl.

Thanks,

BOB

Does the Pioneer have 4 speaker hook up, i.e. a Fader to turn the rear speaker up and down
If so just put in the new front speakers and you can turn off the rears if they don't add to the sound

If it only has left and right balance control then the 2 speaker on each side are connected together, unhook the wires for the rear

Thanks Ron,

I was thinking of that too. The head unit has fader controls.
I can always go with the 2 and add the rears at a later time if I want to. I only have two ears so how many speakers do I need. For home audio the word on the street is 2 speakers are best to listen to music with so maybe it can be the same idea in my baby ranger.

Thanks

Well, I put in a cheap set of JBLs on all 4 speakers.

Not hard to do. The doors came off easily enough. It sounds much better. I only paid 100 bucks for all 4 speakers but I almost wish I had spent more money and got some really good ones I could not justify that as it's just an old Ranger and if you don't have an amp cheap speakers may sound just as good or not even better. I am running an old Pioneer head unit that I had in the truck with an iPod. It sounds nice enough. Big improvement. The truck has a lot of wind noise and I am considering changing the weatherstripping to help that.

Overall I am pleased. With audio, you don't always need to spend a lot to sound good enough. It can be endless. The law of diminishing returns is based on audio equipment.
