Sub help please

I've decided i really miss the bass in my ranger, and want to put some subs back in, but one 10" wasnt enough before, I wanted to do two, but I also dont want to give up my entire back seat, so I was thinknig doing 2 shallow mount 10" subs, but I've never heard shallow mounts before. How do they sound?

I wanted to build a box that will fit under the jumper seats for when i actually use them because yes, I actually do use them at times, never really both at the same time, especially since I refuse to move my seat for anyone haha (what, im driving i want to be comfortable).

I was also debating doing a tower style box behind the drivers seat and putting 2 normal 10s in there, but that'd be a lot of space...

the shallow mounts are quite pricey (about $250 each) but I've seen them listed on ebay for half that. Are they worth it? can they still hit hard and give good bass? I dont want to get them and then be horribly disapponted, but I'm also not looking for something that'll blow the windows out on my truck...hopefully there are a few guys that run shallow mounts that can help out!
thanks!

I have 1 12, in a sealed box sitting between both jump seats and my 3 grand-kids still have room to sit. Granted they are 3,4 and 4 years old.

Brother in law has a 12 in a shallow box behind his seat in his reg cab f-150, thumps better than two 10's It depends on the amp more than anything, if you have a good amp then you can get good sound. I would do the shallows. Also had a buddy that put two 12's under his back seat in his avalanche, and it kicked some ***. You won't be dissapointed.

Do one 15" like mine. It's not a huge box and you can still use a jump seat.

not to start a fight or anything, if he goes with a single 10 in a proper box it will get pretty loud.

15's in a ported box need a LOT of airspace. unless you go with sealed, but why would you when you can make your own box for cheaper and have it sound better?

i tried a 12" before, but it didn't seem to pick up a lot of the double bass in metal songs, i listen to a wide variety of music so the 12s only seemed good for hip hop with long low bass. didn't think about 8s though....

I'd probably just do a single higher end 10" sub and a ported box that isn't tuned too low where your drivers side rear seat was. Thats where my box is, that space is useless for a person to sit anyway

I have a single Rockford P3 Shallow Mount. It blows other subs away thumpin' @ 300RMS. I do have 0.75 cubic ft enclosure though. Paid $180 about three years ago, but well worth it. Rockford support is top notch, warranteed a blown sub with no problems.

I've got two Rockford Fosgate P1's, in a massive ported box. I originally had the system in my Bronco, so the big box didn't matter too much. However, it barley fits in the Ranger. It hits harder then I need it too. I will sometime buy a sealed box, that is smaller.

My buddy has a Sony Xplode low profile 10 inch in his Ram. I personally don't like the sound.

If you get a high quality 10inch sub, with an amp that can properly push the sub to its potential, it will be plenty loud. Probably louder then my two 12's.

And I hear ya on the missing the bass thing. A few years back I had my previous system stolen out of my truck. I couldn't listen to music in my Bronco for weeks because it depressed me LOL

well i am running two RE-X8D4's sealed they say .3-.35 cubic feet is reccomended. i made my boxes to .41 to account for subwoofer displacement. so to give you an idea it can be small...
my new box for 2 8's is
Height: 11"
Width: 31"
TD: 4.75"
BD:9"

How do you think a 10 Inch Alpine type R would do for double bass?
