dunno where to start

i have no idea what to get first. i dont understand car audio stuff and most of the links in the sticky dont work. i got stock speakers and a deck, thats it. what should i get first? speakers? subs? new deck? i dont need anything expensive, just nice but cheap. what do you guys recommend?

i want it crisp and deep. i like my lows.

i listen to hip hop type rap. eminem, tech nine, jedi mind tricks, hopsin, kottonmouth kings, etc.

Agreed ^. I have a sony x-plod head unit, pioneer speakers and two 10" polk audio subs. I listen to the same type of music and it goes loud enough to give my a head ache after just one song when cranked.

then you have an aftermarket. if you don't like how its setup, buy a new aftermarket one. then I would say get speakers. I have alpines and I love them. as far as amps, I had a power acoustik 4000w bamf hooked up to 4 10's in my ranger, and it was incredible. the power acoustik amps are great for the price, and you get a ton of power.

id throw that deck out and start fresh pioneer, clarion, kenwood, etc and as for the power acoustik amps zak873 is correct they are cheap and do some good power for the price and so is boss but they dont do rated. i had a boss 3000 phantom and 2 power acoustik **** 12s and hit a 145db on the meter with stock battery, stock alternator and a run of 0 guage wire Good luck

Lol, so true.

Almost any amp played within its non-clipped operating zone will produce clean power, unless something is physically wrong with it. surely clean enough for subwoofer duty. the biggest distortion causing component in any system is the speaker its self. A THD of well over 10% is inaudible to basically everyone. The distortion from a woofer is usually twice that or more. I wouldnt worry about having clean power on anything except my tweeters which are the most sensitive.

I would start with a sub woofer and amp just to fill in the bottom end that you are missing right now. the factory speakers will do just fine if you reinforce them with a sub to give you some impact to your music.

are you looking a double din with screen or a regular cdplayer, if you going double din id suggest the pioneer avh p4300dvd and if a regular cd player id suggest the Pioneer DEHP8300UB, Pioneer DEH6300UB or the pioneer DEH4300UB

i have the pioneer double din and i love it i WILL NOT EVER go back to a regular cd player again unless its in my spl truck

I personally think that this would be your best start. bass is the one thing that isn't present in the factory system. head units are a great start also! but filling in the lower notes just enhances the whole system quite a bit. A head unit will give your speakers some extra power but not quite the impact that comes from a piece of the system that isn't there at all. Since you have the option, get a headunit and use your moms sub till you get your own! the bazooka will be a hundred times better then nothing. that's awesome that your mom has a sub btw.
