fixing box help

i have a 1.1 sq ft sealed box with a 12 inch alpine type R in it. i bought this box offline and it has worked perfectly. recently there has been a lot of rattling coming from it, but when i press on the box the rattling stops. seems like the box is coming apart.

so, do i take apart the whole box, and put it back together using liquid nails, do i put screws in it to help it hold together, do I just cover all the seals with liquid nails? or any cominations? thanks for the help

Is it a prefab box?

Personally I'd start from scratch. Port it, too.

If you do decide to fix it I'd glue & screw it back togather then run a bead of silicone around all of the seams.

go buy some fiberglass resin, mix up a good batch and coat the inside so it absorbs into the wood some, not only will it hold the box together more, it will seal any leaks in the box.

I would run some screws in all the sides then run a bead of silicone or caulk around the seams inside. That always seems to fix it when I have a box come apart.

Lining the box with resin would be a great idea, but any silicone based caulking will work fine too. Just don't use "bathroom" type caulking. It doesn't stick to plywood very well.

However, your best bet would be to get a new box. The Type R is supposed to be in .78 sq' box. At .78 will tune it to about 50 hz. 1.1 is way up around 90 hz. May be kind of boomy.

Just my .02.
