Ford Focus Radio in a 2004 Ranger
#2
I'm looking at the mounting method, and it looks like the Focus stereo has tabs to bolt it into a sub-structure inside the dash.
The Rangers have the unit snap into the bezel instead, so that won't work without some lethal modification
The factory harness is the 64 dollar question.
Two different harnesses.
Focus:
Ranger:
Hypothetically, you COULD solder/crimp your own harness to go together:
This plugs into the Focus radio:
Then solder this to the Ranger harness 70-1771.
If you have steering wheel controls or other fluff, you're on your own
Once you get the mounting configured, this might power the Focus unit in your Ranger.
Hypothetically.
IMO, the better way is to simply install an aftermarket unit that is ready to be installed with your Ranger. You CAN do "double din" unit, but there's a little bit of filing/grinding you'll need to do. Not difficult, but take your time in doing it right.
Any stereo install place will know what you need if you don't want to do the work.
When my factory unit started eating my CDs back in 2007 or so, I bought a cheap Alpine. About 2014, I bought a better Alpine (used the same harness, too) with Hands-free phone capability, Bluetooth, HD Radio, Sirius capable, Pandora, and USB (mp3, wma, acc and more and charging) connectivity.
I enter my rig, start the engine, and my phone connects automatically and starts playing my metal
Much better than the stock unit's offerings...at least back in 2014.
You can get units meow with Apple play and Samsung/Android play to run apps on your unit.
Google maps, baby

I would agree that the aftermarket is the way to go.
