Super cheap XM radio from Delphi -- Lovin' it!
EDIT: I'M A MORON -- THERE'S A LINE AT THE TOP OF THE REBATE FORM THAT SAYS WALMART PURCHASES ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THIS REBATE!!!! IGNORE THE STUFF ABOUT THAT. $48 IS STILL A GOOD PRICE FOR THE SAT RECV, ANTENNA, MODULATOR (BUILT IN) AND SO ON. OH WELL...SORRY IF I GOT ANYONE EXCITED!
Just got XM radio. I'm loving it. My total cost to get in this will be about $31 when I'm done.
I have the Delphi Roady XT, $48.34 at Walmart, bought locally.
Features
Specifications
There's more pics on the above links.
The Roady XT is COMPLETE, with mag mount, postage stamp sized antenna, small "HU" that contains it's own high quality FM modulator, two different mounting brackets (vent mount, and one you can adhesive or screw mount), etc. I can't believe how good it sounds through my radio.
Delphi has a $30 rebate program on, so my final cost, with tax, is going to be about $21.
Even with the $9.99 start up cost, I'll end up paying just over $30 to have XM in the truck.
Now, before the inevitable XM vs. Sirius argument starts -- I bought this because of one very important consideration: MLB. Yes, Major League Baseball. I love me some baseball, and I'm looking forward to getting games clearly in my truck, especially at night.
If it weren't for MLB on XM, I might have bought Sirius. However, I know people that bought Sirius ONLY because of Howard Stern, lol. Howie's funny, but I'm not a fan so it wasn't a consideration.
No long term data, but the Roady XT is pretty exceptional to my mind. The display has changeable colors and the red "sunset" scheme is PERFECT for my red gauged dashboard.
Mounted it to the dash just to the left of the steering wheel, between the steering column and the lamp dimmer. It fits in there beautifully. I have to wire the power adaptor in "permanently" to a switched feed, and run then antenna cable properly (I'll bring it in via the third brake light). But it's running and it's AWESOME!
The rebate form, if you choose to do this, is here: http://www.shopdelphicatalog.com/Del...EBATE_LTR_.pdf
It's quite a deal!

Edited first post: rebate doesn't apply to Walmart purchases. I didn't buy it thinking I was getting one. I stumbled on that after I went to Delphi's site and there it didn't say anything about what retailers were included.
I'm still happy with it -- just less "wealthy" than I thought I would be, lol!

I love my XM. I jury rigged the cig adapter, stuffed it in the passenger side fuse panel and wired it key-on, so now when I start up it comes on, when I shut down it shuts down. The headunit has a setting, that you need to turn on, called auto-on so that when it gets power it automatically comes on, otherwise you'll manually turn it on and/or off. I ran the antenna up the A-pillar, through the headliner and out the third brake light. The FM modulator works OK, however if you can afford to give up your fm/am radio (you won't want to use it ever again) remove the antenna from your truck, this is what I did because if I traveled out of my usual 10 mile radius I would pick up fm stations and have to switch both headunits to a different station, which got annoying after a while. Enjoy all 75689320 channels of MLB...

It works just like if you added a CD changer to your stock radio. Tune to the station and turn the unit on.

Ha ha! I have my truck parked outside my office with the XM unit running, and I'm listening to satellite radio on the radio in my office. Too cool, lol.
Yes, satellite radio is not free, but it's nice. I like the idea of always having some "different" music available. I like the "memory" feature that stores the artist/title for later review so you can check out artists you hear that you like but don't know the name of.
Also, I like the "artist alert" feature. It basically works in the background and lets you know if the artist you're interested in appears on ANY XM channel. I haven't used it yet, but that's an interesting feature if something you really want to hear is rarely played.

look back 25 years
phone cost $15 and it was in your house
TV antenna brought in 10 stations, more if it rotated
now, cable bill - cellular phone bill - internet access - regular phone is up to $25 or more
I will take my radio signal for free, at least for now - local sports and a wide selection of music is carried there just fine
once I start paying for the radio it will become another bill for life

Nice. My buddy just got the exact same unit free from XM. He ordered XM for his father as an xmas gift.. and they said that he was eligible to get a second receiver for free.. so he did! I can't get over how small the receiver is. He mounted it using a bracket similar to this. It looks and works great in his truck. We used a similar bracket to mount a Sirius PNP unit in my GF's car. Very very slick..
Why? I'd love to hear people's complaints w/ XM. I have been a Sirius subscriber and recently canceled because of how horrible their customer service has been. I posted my experiences here a while back, but the summary is that I was charged for a year of service even after I specifically asked for the service to not be renewed.. and then was threatened by their customer service person when I told them I didn't think it was appropriate for them to charge me a cancelation fee to get out of the subscription I explicitly asked not to renew!
I also haven't really fallen for the Sirius channel lineup. Some of the streams are pretty good.. others (especially the Country selections) were pretty bad.
Yeah-but: the modulators in most of these PNP units these days are actually pretty damned good.. even w/o one that disables your built in FM antenna. We installed an Audiovox PNP3 Sirius unit in my GF's car. I figured we'd eventually buy one of those antenna override units for the modulator.. but in the end we've found it's entirely unnecessary. The built in modulator works very well by iteself.
I also have a Sirius ready receiver.. and the little reciever box under my passenger seat. The downside w/ these rigs is that they usually do not display as much information as the dedicated PNP setups and they cannot be removed from the vehicle (well, temporarily removed). The second point is the real strike against them in my opinion. PNP units like this are great as you can buy a home cradle (or a couple home cradles) and use the device in your house. We've got my GF set up w/ the dock in the car and then another one in the living room. It's great!
Dude, you don't understand it: No (or very little) commercials! Once you listen to satellite radio for a few weeks FM sounds like non-stop jibber jabber. Normally I'm a cheapskate too.. but the $13/mo is well worth it just to have no (or less) jibber jabber and more tunes! If I had a lengthy commute at all, I don't know how I'd live w/o satellite radio!

That's an extraordinary price. Do they come with the antenna, mounting kit, modulator, etc? That's a REAL deal if so. The Roady 2 is slightly larger, but it looked like a great radio.
Now, I'm listening to it in the house, with it running in the truck again, lol. One radio, so many possibilities.
