Grounding Point

I'm gonna be puttin my amp under my seat...What a good ground to connect to?

034x4 01-06-2006 07:50 PM

Bolts that hold the seat to the body. That's how my 1200 watt amp is and has been grounded with no problems. Scrape the paint off of the surface that the wire touches.

jacob_barnes06 01-06-2006 08:17 PM

I have my amp grounded to my seat as well and i have had no problems.

YellowEdge 01-06-2006 08:18 PM

does it matter which bolt? I just tighten the ground wire to be thingy

jrpro130 01-06-2006 08:18 PM

i use seatbelts ALWAYS

one of the best grounds you can find

the bolt goes straight to the frame

The newest thing which i might try to do is ground from the battery's grounding point...can eliminate ground loop and noise. I might try it soon. That would be a ground wire ran through the cab onto the neg bat terminal

YellowEdge 01-06-2006 09:31 PM

i didnt think you were supost to ground your amp to the battery?

mx98ranger 01-06-2006 09:42 PM

i have my amp mounted in my ext cab... so decided to go onto the frame of the jack holder. and yeah... scrapin off the paint IS necessary. lol

i grounded it to the seat bolt...thanks for all the help guys

Sonic_03 01-08-2006 12:21 AM

the best so far i have found is the ground on the battery i know your done your install but to make sure theres no noise or distrtion ive found the battery to be the best ground, costs a lil extra in wiring but youll lever have to worry about the ground going bad

Strider0O0 01-08-2006 12:28 AM

it's actually not recommended that you bother grounding an amp back at the battery. not only is it a waste of wire.. but grounds shouldn't be longer than 18" or so.. the shorter, the better. your battery is grounded to your chasis.. as is any grounding point you will make (assumming it's a successful ground). there's no need to run a ground all the way back to the battery.

i know its old, but the battery ground post is the best ground on any vehicle. the vehicle is a ground path not a true ground. just clearing this up before you guys get more "false" information

and running a wire all teh way from your amp to the bat. post is a ground path... yes the post is best, but running a wire to it isn't worth it. if you're looking for the best grounding option, upgrade the bat. to frame ground.

quest51210 02-20-2006 03:34 PM

no, upgrade battery to frame, engine to body, and body to frame but most wont even bother. i do and i always will. 2 guage. and also run 2 for my alternator to battery

But that's loads of added resistance. No matter what gauge of wire you use, the length of the wire still has a resistance...

all are good and i should have included everything, but yeah.. i was only lookin at pointing out the ground path from the amp directly to the bat.

well yay for us! lol
