If the speaker can handle 1100 watts peak and the RMS is 300 that means that the speaker can handle 1100 watts for a very short time and 300 RMS is the lowest you should run the speaker at. If its a 300 RMS speaker I would run it at around 500 to 600 watts. Remember under powering a sub is just as bad as over powering the sub. You can do a lot of damage to a sub by under powering a sub. Thats just my 2 cents I know everyone will have there own opinion so find what you like and run with it.

No problem! Do you know what kind of sub it is(who made it)? What kind of box do you plan on using or do you buy a box for it when you got the sub?

OK thats not a bad sub. I take it this is your first? If I was you I would build a sealed box. You don't have to build a ported box, witch is good because to build a ported box the right way you have to do a lot of math with some crazy math equations involved. You can look on line to find the demotions you should build the box by and use MDF you can get that from places like Home Depot! Or you could go to any car audio store and buy a box I would just make sure it was made using MDF.

Hey I was looking on line and I wouldn't run that speaker at 500 600 it would be safer at 300 or 400. From what I can find any thing much more than that and you might run into issues. You can probably run a little more than 400 but it might end up doing damage to the speaker. I really haven't had any Sony subs or speakers so don't know much about them.

wait, how does underpowering a sub hurt it? say u have a 500rms sub, so u put a 500 rms amp on it, well after box rise the sub is not seeing that 500 watts. also if u have the volume turned down isnt it getting less than that 500 watts?

underpowering a sub will not hurt it unless the amp is clipping
