is this normal?

Every time I drive my truck I have to reconfigure my sound settings (bass, tre, etc). I haven't even bothered presetting stations, because I know it will reset everything next time I drive it.

sounds to me like your stereo is not getting the proper power and does a reset, same as disconnecting the battery. check your connections.

It's an aftermarket unit. I'm not sure how to check the connections. Where should I be looking?

Pull out the headunit and there will be two power wires going into it. One will be switched power from the ignition to turn the h/u on and the other will be a battery wire for the constant power. The battery wire is the one that allows the h/u to save presets. Check the wire to make
sure it's connected properly. If it is look for breaks further in and any rubbing spots

Sounds like someone wired both power wires on the HU together.

OK. I can't even find the 12v constant. According to the wire color sticky, it's supposed to be lt green/purple. I also can't find all 4 wires for my rear speakers. I have the (-) for LR and (+) for RR.

my guess is that its not green and purple, usually if u get an aftermarket cd they get a dif wiring harness. like through crutchfield.

Yeah I bet the constant power just got hooked with the hot in run power wire.

I would pull it all out and rewire it if it was mine.

it sounds to me like they are wired backwards (I initially did this in my talon because the color coding index for the stock wiring I got was wrong)
my constant was wired to the ignition and my switched was wired to the battery, I switched them around and it worked great.

OK, the PO obviously installed his stereo himself, and instead of getting a wiring harness kit, he cut the factory harness off. And he didn't have the rear speakers wired up up, but even after I did, they didn't work. So I brought out my home stereo speaker to test, and it worked so I got new speakers.

And the wire color sticky thread is wrong, at least for my truck. I got the correct colors from Crutchfield. Everything is all good. Got a new unit and rear speakers today, and it works perfectly. It feels good knowing it's done right.
