how important is a divider

alright, i just did all the math on the box im going to build. its exactly 2 cubic inches larger than specified by audiobahn. well, i forgot one thing, the damn divider. so i was wondering, how important is it? using 2 of the same subs, getting the same wattage off the same amp. so 750 watts rms each sub, 2 ports, 2 subs, one chamber.

should this work fine?

thanx guys

Well, fisrt of all, you need to know what subwoofer it is, so you can obtain the T/S parameters, then design a box with a Box-Building software (if you were building a sealed box, I'd say build it as big as you could). That will tell you how much air space you need, and what your port volume should be.

Also, 2 subs in one chamber is always risky, especially in a ported box! If you have a box perfectly optimized for 2 subwoofers and one quits working, you will probably damage the other running that much power. Ported boxes have to be tuned very closely to the subwoofer that's being put in them!

And if you did build a 2-cahmber subwoofer box, you will actually strengthen the box and it will be louder!

well, i decided on the audiobahn flame compression series subs, 2 10's. model number AW1008T. on the audiobahn site they say build the box at 2.5cu. ft. per sub and the say you cannot put the sub in a sealed box. well, physically you can, but they say not to, and besides, i prefer ported any ways. i was gunna use the ports specified as well, 2 4" wide, by 8" long PVC ports, my dad has a band saw so he can cut them pretty precise.

i drew out the design on windows draw POS program, then i did all the measurements, triple checked everything jsut to make sure i didn't screw up anything. so using the divider is probably a good idea i'll take it?

oh, and should i use some sort of poly fill in the box. i noticed on the stock kicker sub and box combo's they pack them with poly. should i do taht as well

thanx guys

You would be dissapointed if you built the box without the divider....good thing you asked before you built it.

go find some cut-pile carpet remnants, and glue them to the inside of the box for a cheap "wave diverter" if you're going to be mounting them parallel to a flat surface (ie- bottom of sub facing bottom of box) to knock down some standing waves, which will, inturn, lower distortion and raise power handling, which you will need in a ported box.

dont see how?

never used one any any of my dual sub boxes, ive been pretty happy with all of them

divider will help if you do blow one, keep the other form overexcurting, but i doubt it would kill the other one, and im sure you would tell one went out

and they do help bracing, but there are other ways to brace

and to starter, are you dead set on audiobahn? bought them yet?
if not there are much better subs for the money, your paying for the chrome

well, i used to have one of these monsters and i was really impressed. i've been looking around online and i've found the 12" versions for like, under $150 a peice, and the 10" version for around $100. the only problem im going to have is finding a decent amp to power them w/o spending an arm and a leg. the box will be perfect for either 10's or 12's. both of them can be in a 2.5cu. ft. box. bamaboy, i've seen your stuff, and im at a loss of words haha. thats just insane.

alright, well, i'll redesign it with the divider. well not really redesign, but make it just a hair bigger to compensate for it.
