ya they should be able to help you out. i like to go to "professional" shops because they typically know what they are talking about with this stuff... most are not highschool kids doing it as a summer job at best buy who dont give two ****s

Yeah, I agree. Either do it right the first time, or don't do it at all.

Lol, yeah I guess.

I talked to Audio Illusions, they said to come back on Tuesday and they will help me figure out what I should do/get in my truck.

They said they will have to order parts after the meeting and it'll take a couple weeks after that (good thing too since I'm going to be away at work, I leave next Wednesday for 2 weeks).

Don't let them overcharge you, car audio specialist stores might try and take advantage of a guy who doesn't know whats up

Yeah, I know how it goes. I've got a buddy who knows what prices should be and offered to help me with everything, so I should be pretty safe.

So I did some more research on this site and talking to some people, and I decided to go with a Kenwood KDC-X794 as my deck.
It's shipping from Crutchfield, so I will let you know one I get it and have it installed.

Will I need a wiring harness to install this or is it just remove factory unit, plug in factory wires to new one and screw in?

Good choice, I'm ordering that exact one next week.

Crutchfield is sending you the wiring harness, just butt connect all the wires and crimp them, just match colors

Okay, thanks.
Will I need a deck kit? I read about it somewhere online, the person was talking about a wiring harness/deck kit and the head unit.

The deck kit is included as well. Crutchfield does a great job in helping people out

Good news then.

Hopefully the install isn't too much of a pain - seeing as how I've never done it before.

Everything you need should be coming from Crutchfield.

Maybe not the wiring crimps but you can get them at any hardware store.

The install is really easy, crutchfield should include all the necessary instructions. Enjoy it, its a great unit!

Yeah, I sent them an email to make sure (I get very stressed over simple things, so I had to do it).

One of their Advisors (Gil was his name) responded almost instantly and confirmed that they do send everything I need for installation (including instructions).

I'm really starting to like Crutchfield.

Next thing I do is a small sub and amp. I think I'm going to go with a pre-fab 10" kicker sub and the amp I've yet to decide on.

Consider new door speakers.

New speakers will give you a noticeable difference in sounds quality. New speakers with that awesome head unit will make your music will sound awesome

I know that aftermarket speakers will make a difference, but at the moment, I am happy with the factory ones. The main thing I want right now is a sub and amp for the extra 'kick' to my music.

After I get those and save a bit of money, the next thing on my list would be door speakers.

Thank you very much for the help.

I am going to update this thread once I get the Head Unit and have it installed (before and after pictures are going to be given)

Frank

Are you going with a custom setup or just buying a regular box?

I originally wanted to do a custom setup, but as things are right now, I don't have the time or skill to do it (yet). I was at bestbuy looking at what they have there for some ideas and found this box from kicker:

Kicker 10'' Car Subwoofer with Competition Sub Enclosure (10TC10) - Best Buy Canada

I had it going in-store and it sounded pretty good, and that was in store. It will definitely give me enough to fill the small cab of the truck.

Well, I will look into it I guess. I'm still leaning towards the sub/amp before the speakers. A buddy of mine still has his factory speakers with his sub and amp and he has yet to have any problems (he got the sub/amp installed almost a year ago and uses it constantly).

I might just save up and do it all at once.

This is all from my experience. New speakers are a huge improvement. New speakers powered by a aftermarket headunit are even better. Then add a amp/sub to that combo a few months later and you have a great sounding system.
