Infinity Sub?

Well, I have decided that since i have gotten all the offroading stuff for the truck, i am going to put some attention on the system. I have been doing some research, and I have narrowed it down to 4 companies: Kicker, Infinity, MTX, Alpine. Now, as of right now i am leaning towards the Infinity. Thats from reviews on the companies website, also crutchfield. well, I dont know how much those can be trusted, so i figured id come back to y'all for some good ol' Ranger Forums advice:) lol. Another thing. I want to Make it look as stock as possible and still be able to use the jump seats if called upon. Since i am shipping to Iraq next week for 4monts (so they tell me, prob. end up being 5 or 6), My step dad is doing the Suspension work, and my brother said he would do the Audio work if need be. I have been reading through the diff. audio threads all day, and i really like all of your setups.

So, If you have some advice/ideas anything, i would greatly appreciate it.

Edit:

I want to do the whole system, not just the subs. So advice on h/u and front and rear speakers would be awsome. thanks guys

im sure u have seen what i had and what im getting(subs will be in today), i had 2 infinity subs for about 2 years id say then added 2 more and they still jammed just as good with the new ones

kicker to me was good back about 10 years ago now to me there not worth a damn, over priced to add to that,

mtx amps are good the subs i cant say i never had them

alpine subs jam hard

so if u want to keep ur seats ur gonna need something small
http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PU...low/TS-SW3041D

ive heard those are good and u dont need much air space, just make sure when u get a sub u get a amp to match the rms, as far as head unit i say alpine but again others will say this one or that one, pick something that u like and has the features u want, for the front/rear speakers i have infinity and they are nice and clear without a amp but soon i will have a amp on them and see how they jam then

im sure u want to do everything urself and u can but the one thing i leave to a professional is building a box, i say save up the cash while ur deployed and have a shop install the box for u, and thats install a custom box dont waist time and money on a prefab

also for the wire go big, never hurts to go to big

Yah. I dont mind taking up the pasanger side i guess. Just as long as i still have one jump seat and most of the back cargo area left. But, i have a 4 door model, so i cant build it into the door like others have. I was thinkin maybe putin it in the middle, but that would be okward. Hmm. Im thinkin 1 10" sub, put with the right amp and other stuff, should be plenty of power.. you got a cardomain.?

I currently run all Infinity in a car of mine, Amps subs and door and rear speakers. Two 10" Infinity Kapa Perfects, 350rms each, bridged to 2ohm fed 750 watts, The 5x7 are already 2ohm and are fead 120 watts rms at each one. They are infinity Kapas as well.

I get a lot of comments on how clean everything sounds when turned up, Now this is no system for just setting off alarms it was done for SQ so dont forget dynamat is your friend. I run no EQ's no Crossovers other than the ones built into the hu and amps. I run 4ga to the trunk and 8 gauge to the amps, 8 guage sounds small but at a run of 1 to two 2 ft it is not bad, I then run 10gauge speaker wire to all speakers.

Each speaker has equal wire to them for there locations so say 10ft for the front 5ft for rear, this helps imaging. Again system is clean and loud. I have been very happy with it, I also have XM wich makes long drives enjoyable.

I have also learned not to bump my system or your just advertising your goodies to thugs.

I also have run MTX speakers. Stay away from the lower end subs unless your just looking for a moderate punch.

As for shallow subs a lot of brands are now offering them alpin I think kenwood sony. I know sony also makes small sized high power amps for under the seat.

I have heard nothing but good things about the Infinity Kapa perfects. Clean, clear, loud. Everything i want. But, i do want them to hit when called on. How are they on Thump? I dont want that crappy distorted buzz and rattle either. i want a clean clear good bumb that people notice. I have an alarm system on the truck, and for the most part the area i live in doesnt have much crime.

I have thought about just taking her up to a "car audio" place and buy the whole system there, and get it installed with custom boxes. But, i dont have any idea how much this would caust. My friend had infinity subs in his car, and they were amazing! dont know which ones, but they were awsome. Dynamat.... reduces the rattle, what else? Makes it where you cant hear it outside? The bottom line is I want a system that is Clean, Clear and hits hard. I know the Infinity is Clean, clear and loud, but does it hit?

out of those choices, i vote Kicker as my first choice and then Infinity. I have had both and Kicker was the best of the 2. Even Kicker amps are better than Infinity amps....

dynamat is your friend haha.....its really not that hard to do, buy the box of it and get a roller and have some basic tools, gut the cab,cut to fit and roll on the mat, it cuts down on the tin can rattle and cuts down on the outside/road noise,if u want a good reason why to do it urself get some quotes on having it installed

u can install everything yourself and save u some money but like i said just have a box built...and if u just want 1 10" that can be made and take up no room at all

but again ur goin to iraq ur gonna save some cash so its all how u wanna do it

yeah, well, it depends..I am deff. getting the box made. So, i am going to give them a challange of building two boxes for 2 10" or 1 box that will hold 2. But i still want to be able to use one jump seat and have most of the cargo area. I still have to be able to carry my shiznet lol. Got any ideas on a box shape? or if i could fit it under the jump seat?

Look at Pioneer headunits, in my opinion they look the best and come with a lot of options, I have the DEH 3900MP and its awesome, its powers my 4 Pioneer 3 way speakers nicely

I have not seen if Infinity is selling Kapa Perfect series subs at this time i think they sell just Kapas, The Kapa Perfects are the best of the ones they had. They Will Hit they will Rattle and keep going, They have a 4-5" or so thick Mag on them so they can get low without bottoming out. Great Excursion on these woofers. Check into JBL as JBL is the higher end of Infinity seeing as JBL Owns Infinity.

RMS is the keyword so is SPL and Freq range, my subs go to 16hz so thats deeper than the human ear, The higher the SPL the more the sub converts power into sound Its why I chose the Kapa Perfects. The more RMS the harder it can drive,

Now here is a neet fact, You almost need to DOUBLE your wattage to make a noticable difference. Two tens vs 1 is 3db louder if i remember right.

Squeezing a box under the jump seat really limits the amount of air space you can give to a sub. Especially if you want a 10" or a 12", it's kind of cheating yourself out of a lot of options. The way I see it is, most 10s or 12s need about 1 cubic foot of airspace when they're sealed to sound decent. Check out the specs for a sub you have your eye on. Naturally, ported enclosures will need even more airspace, sometimes up to 2x or 3x as much!

I have one 12" Kicker L5 in my extended cab. I took out the jump seat behind the driver seat which still left the passenger jump seat fully usable (isn't that an oxymoron?) My box has around 1.25-1.50 cubic feet of airspace if I remember. I've got a lil' over 600w rms going to it from an Alpine amp. It's fairly clean for a Solobaric square sub.

One thing you haven't mentioned is whether you have a 2dr extended cab or a 4dr. The 2dr cabs give you the option to build the box "into" the area where the jump seat goes because the seat more or less fold out of the wall of the cab. Still, you lose that jump seat. The 4dr cabs like mine usually end up with having to take a seat (or two) out as well.

I would def reccommend an amp on your highs, whatever you do with subs. I put a 4ch amp on a set of Rockford Fosgate Power series 6x8 speakes in my doors. Each one is getting around 75w rms. I noticed a big improvement in overall sound quality just by amping my door speakers over the headunit's power.

Dynamat is your friend. Everywhere!

Here's a shot of the coaxials in the front doors.

Here's the whole system as seen in the back of my cab.

Dam, i love your setup! Did you loose any leg room? How hard was it to Install all the dynomat?

Yeah, they are selling the Perfects, or atleast their websit says they still are(their website is a year old). I think what i may do is see if an audio place has them hooked up and listen to them.

I have a 12" infinity Kappa Perfect Woofer that used to be in my truck. I loved it. It sounded great. But now it just sits in my bedroom as I no longer need or want subs in my truck.

Yeah. Im sure i will grow out of the "wanting to people to hear me before they see me" fase some day lol. I found some shallow subs that are supposed to be good, 400wats RMS, so plenty of power. I think im going to go with one or two of those and keep both my jump seats and my rear cargo space. I wonder if anyone has them?

Did you loose any leg room?
Thanks for the compliment. No I didn't lose any leg room. The seat will slide all the way back and almost recline all the way back. I'm saying that the seat will lay nearly flat.

How hard was it to Install all the dynomat?
Sound deadning is a labor of love. Ask anyone who has done it. It takes a lot of hours and you get tons of tiny little cuts on your hands! That shiny foil you see is sharp. Eek!

I don't think I've ever seen shallow mount subs in an extended cab yet. They sound like a good idea.

Back in the day of hearing me before you see me days I used to run all fosgate mids and highs on a 85 mustang convertable and two 12" 600watt MTX thunders, I could set off alarms easy with the subs or just my exhaust, Sometimes I miss those days.

not to steal the thread but while in iraq i did a american prisoner escort to germany for 6-7 days, and we did all the paperwork and what not and got back almost 700 bucks just from that 6-7 days......but i did drop a grand at a german strip club soooooooooo

but back to subs and what not, things to do yourself-dynamat,headunit,front/rear speakers

let a shop install the amp and the sub

u can even shop around online and order everything and save money that way

if u dont feel like ur up to the task have a shop do it all why??? they have warrenties hahaha
