IPOD or CD's...Your opinon

Hey guys. I was wondering which you guys like more. Having an Ipod or cd's to listen to in your truck, I know that sounds like a stupid question but here me out. I know you can put and entire cd collection on your ipod instead of lugging a huge case of cds around. my question is more about the quality of sound. do you think cd's sound better than the ipod? i know having the ipod connected through a fm transmitter sounds decent but how about having it through your after market head unit? is the quality comparable? thanks!

Depends entirely on the system and how you have the iPod set up.

Above 512kb/s, most people cant tell that the MP3 audio is compressed, even on the highest end systems. iPods are 128 or 256 IIRC, but you can change that in the settings when you move the file over. You cant fit as many songs on the iPod, but the SQ is much better. If you have a set of really good head phones it makes a world of difference as well. Less ear strain and over all better SQ.

If you are just running some co-ax's and dont have sound deadening. You probably wont tell the difference. You'd probably need to at least sound deaden the doors and roof and run a decent co-ax on a good amp to notice an appreciable difference.

All my music is 328 kb/s and it sounds great. But it all depends on how you have the ipod hooked up to your system. If your using a FM transmitter it won't matter what quality the music is in, it will never sound as good as CDs. But if you have a direct connection to the headunit and the iPod you'll never be able to tell a difference.

I have over 250 Cds and I used to carry them in my truck all the time in a big case. The problem with that is you will more than likely scratch them on the zipper on the case and also you take your eyes off the road to look for a CD. Also there is the possibility of theft. I bought my ipod and put everything on it and I couldn't be happier.

Im biased to cds. I dont have the auxillary hookup on my headunit so thats probably why I say that.

x2 on depends on the system. In the old truck I ran CDs except driving accross the state 'cause the FM transmitter doesnt work in the city very well and the quality sucked. Also trips were usually short enough that I didn't get through a whole CD. Now I have 6 in-dash (which I've only used about a dozen times in the year+ I've had the truck). I love having 6 cds at my fingertips but even better is the aux input. I prefer the iPod over CDs just 'cause of the variety but depending on the system CDs are a better choice.

Also I only keep copies in the truck. That way if it scratches no big deal and it's handy when the passenger wants a copy of the cd, I just hand them the one in the deck. Only time I have originals is when I'm on the way home from the store.

I don't even notice the difference in sound so I only use iPod and FM.

I have about 80GB of music on my computer so CDs don't really work. But I do have both.

Still thats just alot of extra stuff to keep track of.. where as the ipod is one thing.. fits nicely in the cut out next to the cup holder.

And you can get more gain running it through AUX.

EDIT:

And offroading.. ipod ftw.. cds skip.

I use CD's in my Dodge because I don't have a nice head unit, and FM transmitter quality sucks. In my Ranger, I only use my iPod or an MP3 formatted CD. The only time the radio is turned on in the Ranger is if my Dad drives it.

That's what I'm saying... I run iPod 99% of the time now... the only cds in the truck are the ones in the deck.

ipod touch is the greatest thing ever when it comes to mp3s. one of my roommates has one and it is amazing for parties as well as everything else..

all we do for parties is hook up his laptop to our stereo and he uses the remote feature on the ipod to control the song that is played so we have control and dont end up with hours and hours or rap playing.

plus free internet on it and all the apps make it worth the money, ill be getting one as long as i can sell my 80gb classic for something decent, apple would only give me 40$ for it which was a rip off since the reason i was even at the apple store was to get a new one before my warranty expired.

Yup I love mine. And you can use the Pandora app with a stereo so the music is endless.

The only thing I don't kike about ipods is that if a CD is gapless there will be gaps between songs. Maybe they have fixed that now but on my old 60 gig photo still has gaps between songs.

i used to have a deck with a AUX plug-in and i used my ipod a little... but i still prefer cd's. its too much of a pain to change the song while driving with an ipod. if it had up/down buttons instead of the scrolling deal it would be easier. so now i just stick with cd's i have two of those sun visor cd holders in my truck

I have Sirius satellite radio, I just got tired of spending time downloading music/ripping it to the computer, then creating playlists ect.

I would say mp3 play over CD's anyday. CD's Scratch, they take up alot of room, ect.

yeah i paid 300 for my 30gb.. then after a year and 3 free replacements.. best buy said here is 300 go get a different one.. and i got an 80 for the same price..

See thats why they take so long to release larger hard drives.. so they can rape people multiple times for the same product..

its evil.
DIE APPLE.
