I have a pioneer 6800 deh headunit in my Ranger and I'm trying to hook my ipod up to play through it while I'm on the road. It has two sets of rca inputs in the back, and one 2.5mm jack on the front of the faceplate. I really can't seem to find a 2.5mm to 3.5mm cable that is a decent quality, and I don't want wires sticking from the front in anycase. (why did they put a 2.5mm input anyways!?)
Someone told me If I had inputs in my stereo, then I could get a y-split cable to hook my ipod up. Went to walmart, and got the scosche brand cable, installed it through my rear input, and barely any sound came out, volume didn't work on stereo or ipod. Put it in the second input, and all the sound came blaring out of only one speaker of four...

Now, before I break anything else...

I see they have these Auxilary input converter "boxes", do i need one of these to play an ipod through the rca inputs?? Though, that doesn't make sense to me because you can hook an ipod up to a tv,dvd player, home stereo...etc with just this: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Belkin-Pur...Cable/15413265

If I'm not mistaken, those rca inputs are actually rca outputs on the 6800.Unless marked otherwise those are used to send a signal to external amplifiers. Do not try to input music to the stereo through them. The 2.5mm mini plug on the front might be for input. 2.5mm jacks were used on some cell phones. but i think this is what you need to buy to have the input.. http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_2084_House-Brand-Pioneer-Aux.html

 

You are absolutley right. I just figured this out a few minutes ago when I found the manual online. Why the holy jesus do I need three different outputs on the back of my stereo??? And why two aux channels when I have only one aux input? Wish this thing came with a manual, but I probably wouldn't read it anyways. Anyway,thanks for helping me out man.

Pretty easy to use when your running a full system.. one pair for fronts or tweeters one pair for rears or mids one pair for sub(s)

I'm a manual reader.. one of the few I know I always seem to find something interesting or important in them. The manual for that stereo is available on the pioneer site.. check it out you might find something cool about your stereo that you didn't know about. Like your built in crossovers.. which you can use to allow your fronts to play cleaner and louder. Good luck!
