hey, i am buying an 07 ranger fx4 level II, i am interested in putting sub(s) into it, it has stock HU, and no audio equip that i know of, in it. I am curious if anyone has put subs in the back of a supercab, without losing either rear seat, as i would like both of them, i am thinking of putting the sub where the jack sits currently

i currently own 2x10" MTX's and a 12" Crankenstine any or all of which i am willing to put in this truck, if i can make them fit well, and i believe they are supposed to be in a ported box (that's what they are in now)

i did search for ideas, but came up short on all results

 

We have several closed enclosure style boxes being documented right now - maybe take some ideas and modify them to straddle the hump in between the back seats and where the jack stand is :-)

Its apain in the rear end to work with all the carpeting and crap when doing this - but there are already small holes you can utilize where the jack is mounted on the base plate there - cut a chunk of wood, mount it there, and get to town on it making somethign that works =)

 

I honestly dont think you would be able to mount a sub there and have space for 2 people. I know when I get stuck in the back of my buddies with abother guy, your knees are basicly touching.

I had the idea of making a box that would fit under the jump seat when folded down.

 

i should go into more detail with what i was thinking, ported boxes don't need to be as big as a sealed one, they can be almost the same as an open air set up. so what i was thinking was using the cover that is on the jack right now, re-enforcing it with fiberglass on the inside, if i have to, and mounting one sub to that, inside, it should be thick enough to keep the sub off of the back wall, but i am not 100% sure

as far as room in the back seat with 2 people, i've only ever sat in the back of my friend's with a girl, and for that i put one my my legs between hers, and one of her leg between mine... it gives you much more leg room and you can actually stretch out, and it's not too much different than when there is only 1 person back there. 2 guys on the other hand isn't as fun to do that with...

 

i put a twelve inch sub in mine and i looked for a way to keep the seats..im not sure its going to happen. i couldnt figure it out. i kept the passenger side one because i like to recline while driving so i i still can have my seat in the good position and the two passengers can fight about room.. but ya. id like to see how you do this if you figure it out.

 

the first obsticle i see in this, is that i don't actually have this truck yet, but hopefully tomorrow

second problem, the 07 ranger, has the jack in that section of the supercab, what other years use that same cover? i would like to go buy one from a wrecker, and see how i can make it work, i have some ideas for expanding the section to give more room for the sub, if i need to, but not a considerable amount

 

I think they are all similar from 01 up. My 98 is completely different I know that for sure.

Its actually the opposite - sealed boxes are -always- smaller then ported.. a ported box needs to be roughly twice the size of a sealed box to account for the amount of air, and the port that needs to be tuned.

Thats why 9 out of 10 peopel in a ranger go with a sealed box - you can only fit maybe 2 10's tops with a ported box, a single 10 still takes up an easy half of the area - it forces you to get rid of one seat at least if you want room for another person

 

ok, i didn't believe you, but i googled it, and you are right, so hows this, i am curious, what sizes would i need for a 10 or a 12 inch sub? i'm thinking about just using a 10.

the other thing i found out is that if you use insulation, it will trick the sub into thinking the box is bigger, i am thinking this doesn't count if it is packed full of insulation... but how much would this make a difference?

also, what is the width between the seats? i have a new plan that will deffinetly be big enough, for one, but it would be a LOT of work

 

Guessing yours would be the same but mine was a little shy of 16 between the seats and 21 from hump to bottom of the back window. 10 you can get away with as little as .5 cuft up to about 1.25 for some 12's just depends on the sub. Top mount depth probably plays the biggest role in building a box for that area of the truck. That's why mine ended up being 11" at the bottom tapered to 7" at the top allowing the depth I needed for a 6-7 deep sub.

 

Wow thank you for the info, I'm thinking I can probably fit what I want in there, but we will have to see, I finalized everything with my truck I hear back about the financing today, bout an hour and a half actually, hopefully bringing it home tonight

 

good news and bad news, first the good, i have finally gotten the truck, i will post pics eventually. The bad news is that the back seats aren't the same as i remember them being, so the idea i had for a box will not work...
