About 6 months ago I bought a 2006 ranger, since then ive put a Pioneer H/U and 4 Polk 5x7's. Ive been looking around at many different types of subs lately and have picked out a combination of a Kicker CVX104 10" run by a Kicker SX650.1 amp. So heres my question, Will i need a capacitor to run this system? The sub is only 600 watts RMS, but will this be enough to dim my lights? If it will dim my lights, are there any other alternatives to a capacitor?
* Before posting this I did do a search and came up with posts asking about capacitors and high wattage system ( <1000 watts).

run the appropriate wiring, etc, and you should not need a cap. I have a lot more being drawn from my system, and mine barely dims at all. Caps are not neccessary when a system is designed properly.

I havent looked over the amp, but it seems to recommend using 4AWG wiring. Run a 4AWG wire from your battery for power to the amp, where ever you plan on mounting it, and then use 4AWG wire to ground it to a good, clean ground somewhere near the amp. MOST IMPORTANT: Fuse the 4AWG power wire within 18" of the battery using an appropriately sized ANL fuse holder. I saw on a website that it recommended using Kicker's installation kit, which contains 4AWG wiring, as well as an 100A ANL Fuse. I'd double check that to make sure it is sufficient and not over kill, etc.. Someone more familiar with Kicker should correct anything I may be wrong about

this kit seems to include the power wire, the fuse holder, the fuse, the ground wire, a set of RCAs, and more than likely, a remote wire. that is everything you will need to wire up an amp for your sub(s).

I have Performance Teknique 600wt and 800wt amps powering my system and have never had any problems, even when i had my stock battery. So you shouldnt need one.

The amp and sub im looking at is on sonicelectronix.com, the price is for 1 Kicker CVX104 10" and Kicker SX650.1 amp. Although the amp is refurbished, the price is still only $429. Ill still look around for better prices though.

 

well if you are planning time travel you will need a flux capacitor. Ask N3elz about these he is the man when it comes to flux capacitors.

Caps are not required for a correctly done system-as mentioned already-but it does strain your vehicle for power for other power goodies-a/c-heater-auxillary lights and so on, but i did notice a differance in the way my system with and without a cap and i will always have a cap with a system (noticed much deeper and cleaner bass), you have more power at the immediate demand and is easier on the vehicle. I also put in a high output alternator and an optima yellowtop battery to ensure i have enough power when required
For comparison i have 2 kc 130w lights, and 2 hella 500 55w lights, a 1200w amp, and a 460w amp
before the alternator and battery(with 1 farid cap) with everything running the truck dropped to 12.3 volts immediatly
with the alternator and battery truck now runs at 14.5 volts at least
all this is done with the truck at idle and the more volts being put out the better
While not required-if you can afford to you should put in a cap for your system-from my experiance you wont regret it and if you have a high powered system a high output alternator and a good battery certainly wont hurt if you are able to do so
