Taking down the Headliner to install dynamat

Has anyone taken down the headliner in their truck? I'm planning on doing it to install dynamat on the roof. My truck is a 2004 Extended cab 2-door.

From what I understood, no they don't. Maybe a little residue from the windshield. I haven't done mine yet, but will be this weekend if my dound deadner comes. You may have a little harder time without the 4 doors.

Hey Jp7 the easiest way to take down the headliner would be just to strip the interior interior, both front pillars, the rear extended cab trim, the sunvisors, dome light and maybe some other misc. stuff.

Thank you man, Yeah I know i have to take all of that stuff down... I was looking for experienced "pointer" tips...

I try to learn from the mistakes of others...

I just hope there is no adhesive in my truck. I'm still debating but I think im going to end up getting pro damplifier instead of edead.

I've taken my headliner off and redone it before. Wasn't much to it, pulled the oh sh*t handles, visors, a-pillar plastic, and loosened all the back plastic. Helps to take the mirror of the windshield as well. When u have it all loose I found it easiest to pull it toward the dash until its completely out then start fanagling it out of the truck. The hardest part for me was putting it back in b/c lining up the bolt holes for the sun visors was a pain.

Thank you - I don't plan on removing it from the truck , I just want it down enough to sound-deaden up there....

Useful info, any other advice from people that have actually done this is very appreciated.

I can not see any bad side effects of doing it, The roof of any car or truck is very flimsy and i wouldn't doubt if you get a lot of road noise alone from there, I added sound deadener to my focus not just for the stereo but just driving to cut back road noise. I say if you wanna make your ride quiet inside do it as much as you want and where you want.

I went as far as stuffing the pockets of crumple zones and structure supports with polly-fill to eliminate any sounds. The car was a big difference and many people have noticed. doors sound more solid and less road noise.

When I did mine, I did all the above PLUS I removed the seat. It's not that big of a deal.
I took it out also because one layer of my insulation was PAINT that I sprayed in.
Seriously, think about removing the seat. Lots of room to work that way.

Last summer I removed both seats, the console and the front console along the shifter. I covered from the seats forward to the gas pedal with a layer and a half of dynamat. It got rid of some of the noise but I'm going to do the entire thing this time.

go with the edead v3 and then cover that with a layer of v4, and you will be solid. thats what i am going to do in mine this summer when it is warmer and i have the thunderbird out because it will take a good day to for it to dry up and it stinks some. edead is the only deadener that i use now. i would get a steel yard ruler and slide that along the roof inbetween the headliner to break the adhesive if there is any. but disconnect the battery because of how the dome light is wired in. possibly take pictures and post in the how to.

I liked the Edead but I notice that is is a little flimsey, second skin is sending me a sample of "damplifier pro", its more expensive, but I will judge by the samples and the reviews on the net. Edead, and Fatmat have sent me samples of each product they offer so far.

well just remember it doesnt matter on the product but when the sun is beating down on the roof it heats up and will release the product. so thats y you want a painted on product, like the v3 or spectrum sludge.

I just bought 300$ worth of damplifier pro. It will retain stickyness to the roof up to 500 degrees.

I've had damp pro on my roof for over a year now. Last summer we saw temps in excess of 110 here in the Calif desert. NO PROBLEMS.
