Need some new sound
I have a factory system in my 06 ext cab FX4. without spending an obscene amount of money, what do you all suggest for sound? I know I am going to replace all 4 speakers, but what should i look at spending for decent quality? I like my factory 6 disc in dash, but i am not against swapping it out. Are different brand names just personal preference, or should I avoid certian ones at all cost? I used to be a big Pioneer fan, but I have not bought stereo equipment for a vehicle in 10 years! I would appreciate anything you all have to say. Thanks

I love my Sony CDX-GT510. It matchs my dash at night, it sounds excellent and powers my Pioneer 4 way speakers great! Best part is, it was under 150 bucks. If you are like me and want better sound without subs and spending a tone of money, you will ike this setup. I did the speakers and stereo for under 350 bucks....

I agree - Pioneer - good bang for the buck and reliable

i'd go Alpine or Pioneer on the headunit.
6.5" components for the front doors. i really like Kicker's current line.
6.5" coaxials for the rear. once again some nice Kicker's.
you can either make your own speaker adapters to fit the superior 6.5"s in the 6x8 space, or buy some like THESE from www.mjmautoinnovations.com for $7 a pair.
whatever you do, get speakers of the same size, brand, and model/series to keep a balanced sound.
when it comes to speakers, it's really how much you want to spend, and what YOUR ears hear. i can tell you what i like, but you may listen to them and hate them. audition them first.
really my only personal rule of thumb is Sony is only as good as the distance you can throw it.....or how many pieces you can smash it into with your truck tire. you take your pick.

not really. they make good TVs. actually quite good TVs, just overpriced. just about everything else they make is of low quality. they are fine for budget or entry level stuff, but i wouldn't waste my money on their stuff....other than the sony LCD we have.
but that's for another thread i'm sure.

I say Alpine & JL Audio. JL's TR series are very nice. I'm getting thier 5x7's for my T-bird, and thier VR series in my Explorer. But thats me. If you want descent sound, go with some coaxials in the front & rear, a small sub amp and a single 10". That won't be too "bassy", but it will give you the punch from the rock & altenative.

Morel for the door speakers and whatever the crap you want for the back...most of the greates SQ comes from the front speakers and thats where you get your staging and everything. Pioneer makes some good decks on there higher end stuff. For you look for the most EQ bands. I would upgrade to components. This takes the tweeter out of the sub and places it elsewhere to improve SQ. A small amp will also be good to power the speakers. There are other component speakers out there. I also like the Boston speakers from there higher line as well as MB Quart but the highest line i cant remember the name haha. Not a big fan for Kicker myself b.c. of the sound.
