I think Crutchfield is having a sale on Infinity Reference speakers now. If they are in your price range, I would look into them.

I paid $60 for my Sony Xplod speakers. They are decent for the price. Bass could definately be better, but highs are good. They are certainly a major improvement over stock speakers.

Don't put anything in the back...it's a waste of money. Just buy some nice speakers for the front and you'll be much happier. I personally like Boston acoustics...you could also buy a decent set of components and a little 50watt 2ch. amp to power them.

Buy from Circuit City if you can and get the warranty. Not only do you get a 4 year warranty, but if, within that 4 years, there are better speakers you want, they will give you what you paid credit towards a new set. If they are 3 years and 364 days old and you want to upgrade, you can. I really wish now I would have bought my system from Circuit City instead of Best Buy.

As for the back speakers, I put some in the back of my standard cab and i can tell a difference when they arent playing. Not alot, but enough where I want them there.

For staying close to your price range the 6x8 Pioneer 3 or 4 ways are your best bet. I had the 4 ways in my previous car and I liked them. But top of the line are the Alpine 5x7's. Thats what I am going to get. They run around $140 a pair though. But my bro works at Best Buy...mwhaha I get them for about $75!!!

Speakers in the back ruin the sound stage.

for the money ($180-200) get a pair of alpine type-s components for $90 off ebay, and get a 2x 50w or 2x 75w off ebay (you can get a decent brand for around $100).

or spend an extra $50 and get the type-r components for $120, and an alpine mrv-f240 (50w x 2, but a real decent amp) for $120.

if you aren't going to amp it, buy 2 sets of stock speaker from a newer truck (02 up). my stock speakers (04) sounded better than pioneer, sony or alpine type-r speakers w/o amplification.

DO:

spend $250-300 (shipping and install stuff) on pretty damn good speakers and amp

or

spend like 25 bucks on stock speakers from a new truck.

DON'T: spend $200 on 2 sets of speakers that don't sound much better (if any) than stock.

just my advice, and you know what advice is worth

for that price range.. id only recommend finding something aftermarket.. don't go with new stock speakers.. if you do your math, etc., with your stock headunit, you can find a nice set of aftermarket's that'll sound great for your money's worth.
