My cheapo idea...ford tweeters

I replaced all the factory speakers in our MKX about a year ago. The front doors had these...6x8s that are fed full signal from the head unit with a crossover built on that sends highs to the tweeters.

The tweeters have a raised center section:

So you could almost simply drill a hole in the large black plastic area on the door panels on the Ranger (above and forward of the door handles), recess that raised area into the hole, and epoxy the mounting holes to the back side, and it just may work great, and free! I'll have to pull the door panel and plug it in first to see what it sounds like. Speaker says 4-ohm on it so I'm sure it would be fine.

I'm sure it wouldn't make for show quality sound but it would be a free improvement.

I went out and pulled the door panel, removed the factory ranger speaker, and plugged this in...works just fine. Now to find a 1 1/2" hole saw and some epoxy...

Nice! Now I think I'll have to go buy some of these. I'm starting to hate my Pioneers.

Forgive my ignorance, but where did the tweeters go before? I bought my ranger with cheapy aftermarket speakers and then replaced them with pioneers, so i never got to see the stock ones.

In the MKX, they were mounted in the upper front door panel area.

Some of the new F150s have these too. I couldn't tell you which ones though. I saw them in an FX4.

I was "insisted" that I take a week off this month since I haven't used enough of my vacation time this year so I'll have a whole week to play with such projects...I'll let you all know how it works.
