New subs and box. Got a question.

Ok hopefully you all know what I am currently running for subs and box. If not, it's in my car domain. Well to make a long story short my gf wants to buy my subs? I was like "ok" but you dont have to" She said "no I'll but em because i want you to have a banging system still" So b4 my gf taks em I was wonding what a good set of subs 12's or 15's. and a band pass box so air can move! I dont mind sticking with the same box http://www.crutchfield.com/S-UgszxjX...50&I=044QB2124 but maybe some real good subs. Just looking fo open ides or opinion. I got like a month or so to think on it.

If I were you, stay away from bandpass.

Build yourself a nice ported box. I would reccomend either kicker l7's (new ones) or some higher end audio (maybe RE or Adire) and just build a ported box.

Get yourself a sheet of MDF and hack away. Contact Blurple, I'm sure he will help you with box plans, he's got kickers

I know that your ported boxes are a tighter bass compared to a bandpass box to let the air move. If you want a deeper sound than go with a bandpass. Just what I heard. I mean i LOVE the way it sounds! People always hear me coming b4 they even see my truck. "my friends tell me atleast.

ported all the way no band pass...band pass just lets you hit highs good.....best bang for your buck when it come to the money and speaker....12" Alpine Type E....or for a lil more money if you have a good amp, Alpine Type S....all the way...

I personaly like a sealed box. Put enough power to a sealed box and it bumps pretty good and has good sound quality. I like all different kinds of music so thump isn't the only thing I consider. I had a bandpass in my truck for a couple months and it sounded like s**t compared to my sealed box so I sold it. I don't really have much experience with ported boxes but I just got 2 of them for free so Im going to get a speaker for one and put it in my wifes car. I have heard that bandpass is good for thump and that you can get more thump with less watts but you loose sound quality. That has also been my experience.

I had that same idea, then reality hit me. You would lose all your space since a half wall out be needed. It's a retarded idea to have four 12's in our truck cabs. It may look cool and be impressing, but two 12's can handle the job.

Not to mention the lack of airspace for those ported subs if they were to be properly tuned. It would become a nightmare I believe for a first timer.

There is a website (I dont have the link atm, maybe someone else does) where you can figure out the diamentions of the box and it will be tuned and everything. you just give it some numbers to play with.

Me personally i like sealed box i've heard every kind of box but sealed sounds the best. I would get 2 12'' JL W3 v3 its JL's new sub and it sounds better then the JL W6. And it all depends on what kind of amp you have. Everyone thinks the better the sub the better the sound but thats wrong it all comes down to your amp and a good amp could make any sub sound good.

either hack it up and do a blow through (you can be way louder than that if you listen to the right peoples advice)

or

buy an extended cab

If you buld a ported box yourself, you have to have it tuned right....with some music, or songs itll sound like s**t plain and simple. I have 2 - Digital Audio 10's in a ported box, with a 2000 watt Digital Audio Amp, with a Carbon Cell 2 Farrad Cap, Optima Yellow top it hits 147.5db in the cab consistantly (slap show in NH). Any box is nice honestly. You can make noise out of any of them, its just preference...I think bulding a ported box yourslef is tough, because you have to research the sq feet the subwoofer needs, the htz it needs to be tuned to, and the amount of power your going to put at it all needs to be considered factors in bulding it. Either way whatever you choose, the box plays a roll in the amount of noise you produce, but the biggest is the selection of subwoofer & biggest player...the power you plan on throwing at it.
