if you've ever installed ANY kind of subwoofer, you'll never be able to match that bass with coaxial/component full range speakers. However, you can still get good lows out of full range speakers, but don't expect to feel it. Pioneer 6x8's are a good choice.

Agreed, a sub gives you that DEEP bass that you normally hear in cars passing by however, I personally like all the sound to be reproduced accurately so I'm not a huge fan of subs myself. As for, do 6x8's sound good? It really depends on the speaker, as I posted yesterday I like the Pioneer 3 ways as a good value speaker. They aren't the best but, you aren't getting much better until you double the cost and even then the difference isn't always worth the cost.

i'd reccomend getting a sub, not so much running enormous power to a sub, but, get a really nice amp, (i'd reccomend kicker's SX series, because you can customize anything with that amp) Its fully digital, and has an amazing sound.

I have an SX1250.1 hooked up to 1 L7, and i can go from listening to crazy loud bass music, to amazing rock music by the press of a button on the amp.

But to answer your question, you'll get good sound out of just a nice set of components, but nothing compared to a sub setup

last time i checked to get sound reproduced accuratly you need to hit all the frequencies ie where a su comes in for the low bass

btw 6x8s are what come stock in the front and rear of the rangers.. so that size is what you would need to get for a direct replacement it would just depend on what brand the speakers were, what amp you powered them with and the head unit.. i guess

ed audio makes a nice 6.5" mid/sub that handles the duty very well. put those in the rear with very minor modification and some sound deadener abd you should be happy. at 100 a pair they are decently priced and you could always make a box for them and they handle sub duties very well look at this install>>> http://www.icixsound.com/vb/showthread.php?t=16402
