Noob audio question (cap and sub box)
 

Hi

I figured I needed some help or tips on the following. Im not too good in audio and just started experimenting in my ranger. So far *knock on wood* there hasnt been a firework in my truck. Anywho first question is about a capacitor I just bought. Its a 1.2 farad tsunami. I bought it used so I didnt get resistor. Now if I wanted to charge it what kind of resistor do I buy and can someone show me a pic and the specs? I look on radioshack.com and I saw a bunch and didnt know which would be for my capacitor.

Now for the sub box. I was going to run an audiobahn click here to see it. Now I want to build a box for my truck that is ported and here is my little 2 min work.

questions:

1. How many Cu. feet would this be if I built it on 3/4 MDF?

2. How big should the port be and is the port supposed to be some pipe going into box?

3. Where would the port be better off top or bottom?

4. How big would the port be at this size box?

5. Will the box be good for the audiobahn lol?

Im not trying to be a dick or anything but audiobahns are awful.
You can get something way better than that in the same price range.

Also the box size and tuning is relavent to the specific sub that you get.

I would suggest going to the forums at caraudioforums.com and doing some research. They might even help you design a box, although I wouldnt mention audiobahn over there...

Well I want a sub which I can bridge at 500 RMS. What would be a good one for loud clean bass?

So I'm guessing you already have a 2 channel amp that is puts out 500rms bridged? What ohms is this power at?

If you want clean bass, I'd suggest a sealed box. They're easier to build (especially if it's your first time) and can be more forgiving. They can also still get REALLY loud, and will be more suitable to more types of music. Unless you simply want to blow your doors off, I don't think a ported box would be much good for you.

I have a 2 channel amp at bridged 4 ohms...................I just got a kicker 12" CompVR12 2ohms DVC. I guess im wiring it to keep the ohms on amp at 4ohms. Im going to just keep the current sealed box I have which is 1 cu ft. I decided to go with the kicker I was thinking about instead of the audiobahn. What do you guys think? Will it sounds nice?

i ran a pair of sealed comp vr 10" s and really liked them in my toronado.

the dimensions you stated, made out of .75" mdf would be an 2.247 cuft box. (assuming that the dimensions that you gave were external measurements) that is before woofer displacement and any sort of bracing.

i would go a little bit bigger of a box for that sub, being that you have the room. and keep it sealed as well. but that is just my $0.02

The following will give you all the info you need. I would say just experiment with the placement of sub and port. Sub and port in the same side often works well, but every car is different.
