1 or 2 subs?

1 or 2 subs?
Im still trying to figure out what I want to do with my system. What is the difference between having 1 and 2 subs sound wise? And im still trying to figure out if I want 10s or 12s. I got my brothers old audiobahn 2 8" subs out that he had in his ranger (still in the box he made), and hooked them up, and I couldn't hardly tell a difference between the 8's and the 12s I had in before. Im not sure what ohms the subs were, but they were dual voice coil subs. Im guessing they were 4 ohms, and wired parellel, so the amp saw them as 4ohms going in the amp. (according to the pic below from crutchfield). How would you wire them to be a 2ohm load?
I also thought about getting 1 good 10 or 12 inch sub, and hooking it as a 2ohm load, so I could get 250rms going to it so it would hit better, but im not sure how it would sound compared to 2 subs powered by less watts to each sub.
Also, is it possible to bridge 1 sub going into a mono amp?

I never belived it before, but the way the sub sounds has A LOT to do with the enclosure that it is in. Ported or Sealed and the OHM that you have it wired. I have 1 12" sub with specs of I think 1.25cu of air to breathe and I made a box that is 3.25 and this thing hits. No one believes that it is just 1 12" sub in there. Yes, the way that picture is illustration is already bridged. I would remove one of those subs and bring the dual voice coil 4 ohm sub down to 2 ohms by doing 1 lead from +/- terminal from the amp to one of the coils, and than from that coil to the other coil staying with +/- not doing the positive to negative and negative to positive. I will see if I can afford a decible meter as money is tight these days with barely any work and a whole hell of a lot of school. I posted my sub box pictures in another thread but here is what mine looks like and yes, I am removing it cause its to damn big for my truck.

For some reason, the 8s I hooked up last night dont hit anything like they did last night.....you can barely feel them, where as last night, they felt almost like the 12s I had in there.
So maybe I should get 2 10s and make the box as big as I can? or just one 10? It seems that if the 8s are hitting almost like the 12s I had, then the small box the 12s are in is really restricting their performance.....

It really depends on what you're going to be listening to IMO. Personally, I like having two so you can really feel like you're in the second row. I replaced the factory speakers with 3-way Pioneers and it really sounds awesome. Space is a consideration too. I didn't use my extended cab for anything, so I filled it with speakers lol
I've heard that the Kicker solo baric's....the square ones....I think those are solo's...., anyways, I heard those pound like a SOB. But again, it depends on what you'll be listening to. I'm not sure what you can get away with on a regular cab. There's a lot of guys in here that have really nice systems in the regular cabs.
Sharp truck by the way. That color and those wheels looks bad ***.

You can fit 2 10s behind the passenger seat and have your amp behind you and have a plenty big box. You should go with a sealed if you want two 10s because of the size restrictions. Im running two TC-DB500s with factory specs in a sealed box and they hit real hard. They dont mess up or distort when you are really pushin em.

Thanks. Thing took forever tog et done lol The amp is only running at like 25% of what it can do. I purposely bought something overpowered so that the amp didn't have to do as much work. The two fans on the front pull air in and the two on the top pull it out so you get a nice flow through ventilation goin on.

I had 2 12's behind the seat, but the box is too small, it might have half the recommended air space for the subs. Im thinking about getting a bigger amp, cause right now, i've got the gain pretty much maxed out.....I've ran it at 3/4 gain for almost 2 years. I think 10s is probably what I need.

In all honesty man, I would get a bigger amp so that you have more to work with. Your going to most likely want more power later and there is no point in buying a new sub(s) and then wanting more. I went through the same thing a while back wanting two RF P2 12s and ended up upgrading my amp to 600 watts rms from 300 and got a W6v2. I could not be happier with the purchase and know that this single sub would slam the **** out of two 12's I was going to get on just 300 watts of power.

I currently have 1 12" sub in my truck and like it a lot. It's the Rockford P2 (the single voice coil version). I used to have 2 Pioneer 10"s but they sounded like crap and they took up more space than my 12".
The first part of that problem was my fault because my box was total junk! It was literally pieced together from old house speaker boxes!
But, I think you would be happy with 1 pretty decent quality 10" or 12". It'll sound clean and loud if you spend some time with the box. If you like the Rockford stuff, you could pick up the new Punch P3 12" shallow mount sub with dual 4ohm voice coils. Dual 4ohm voice coils will allow you to wire it down to 2ohms. That sub needs like 1cu. ft. of airspace. Its a 400w sub, so your amp will be a little small.
You could always get a P2 like what I got and wire it down to 2ohm. That'd be about perfect powerwise. Choices, choices, choices...

If you can't get that amp, I would reccomend the RF P6001bd. It puts out 633 watts at 2ohms. I got mine for $226 at onlinecarstereo. It's good that your investing in a better amp. It opens up so much more options for you even if you have to pay a little more. What subs are you thinking about?

I really dont know what brand, but I was thinking about getting either 1 10" sub or 2 10s.......Im trying to keep the cost down. If I got 1 good 10" sub (or maybe a 12) and ran it at 2 ohms, it would get 500 rms if I used the profile amp, and thats alot. I just wonder how it would compare to 2 subs at 250rms each (500rms total).

All you need is one sub and one amp and you are set. Just get the right enclosure made for the sub and wire it down to the lowest impedance possible and it should bang. I had 2 Rockford P3s both in single boxes which were both 1000watts and this ONE Rockford T1 at 1ohm seems to get louder and lower than both of those 2 P3s together. Same will say "No, you're an idiot, 2000 total power will always be louder than 1200 total power" Well... its all in the box and the ohms. The P3s were both at weak *** 4 ohms, all amp could handle, lol.

Well when I first bought it I was very unhappy with how it turned out, seemed really low and not all that great. NOW that I have it in the right enclosure, rattles my brains. ANYWAYS, You have a single cab correct? I do agree with that P3 or P2 sub that are shallow but still put out a pretty good bang. They will be able to fit behind your seat. Don't forget though since your cab is so small, almost any sub should sound pretty damn good inside of there. You may not need the 23" jackhammer or whatever it is and a 7000$ amp to push it, being in that truck, your sub is inside a box, inside another box.

yep reg cab. Back when my 12s where in good shape, my rear view mirror and side mirrors would vibrate and shake a good bit, and I only had 125rms going to each one. I could put it on a song with good deep hitting bass, and you could see the rear glass vibrate/move alittle when the bass hit. I think i'll just get one good sub......maybe a 12 and put it in a sealed box. Because at 500rms, there aren't any cheap subs worth getting that have that high of a rms rating to take advantage of all that power.
