n00b question

alright, i have prior experience hooking up stereos on cars and trucks, but i never through an amp. now, i know what i need to do in order to power up the amp and hooking up through the stereo. my question is. will splicing be involved in order to run the speakers through the amp using the factory wiring harness?

What are you amping? The door speakers or subs? I'm assuming door speakers and I would say it will be a lot easier to run your own wires and leave the stock stuff alone. Why? Well if you sell your truck down the road or anything it will be a lot easier to convert back to stock.

agreed and not to mention that running your own wires will be easier to track down problems if any occur.

Also are you running a stock or aftermarket head unit?

i'll be running an aftermarket head unit

alright, should i at least run the constant and switched power though the harness to make it simpler in terms of running power to the stereo?

Yeah. When you wire up your stereo just wire everything but the speakers. Then just run your own wires through the doors and to the rear speakers.

With any decently sized amp you are going to want to run independant power and grounds and you're remote turn on from the head unit.
