Pics: Sub and Amp stopped working. Need HELP!

Just setup and installed my first system in my truck yesterday. Amp works good and sub sounded great last night and this morning...until it just stopped working today after about an hour of driving. The amp seems to have power and is working properly, but the sub isnt doing anything at all. If it matters, I soldered all connections I could.

Here is what I have done so far:

-Checked fuse on Amp- 20A and its fine.
-Changed the bridged speaker wire to single channel- still doesnt work.
-Checked connections on sub and amp- all solid.

Setup:

-400W Power Acoustik Amp
-10" Elemental Design SQ10 Sub
-Pioneer P3100UB Head Unit

I don't really know what else to do. Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated.

have a Multimeter? check the continuity of your sub...

Check your connections to you head unit.
also if you have other preamp outputs try using them..

Ive never seen a Pioneer head unit that didn't break one way or another.

John,

I have this thing...

http://www.sperryinstruments.com/spe...ts/et-201a.jpg

Will it work to test it?

Also, The Pioneer HU is brand new too. In case it matters.
I will go and check the connections real quick and get back to you.

The connections to the HU are solid. I have two sets of pre outs. Just switched the preouts and it still doesnt work.

RangOH Apr 8, 2009 08:35 AM

No that wont test it...

my buddy had a new pioneer and it crapped out 1 week later

do you have any kind of alternate signal source like say a ipod with a 1/8" plug to RCA cable, or a home stereo with RCA outputs? if you do hook the amp to that.

another way would be to disconnect the RCAs from the head unit (make sure the amp is on) and touch them with your finger.Center pin to outer contact. this will cause the amp to pick up any static from you body and amplify it to the point where you should here Popping or crackling from the sub if its working.

Thanks for your quick help John!

I dont have either of those things. I'll pick something up today when I'm out.

I will also borrow another sub from a friend and see if its the sub.

I tried the finger test and I did not get any response.

I just noticed your crossover (X-over) is set to Full it needs to be set to LFE Low Frequency Effects. you may have damaged your sub..

feh728 Apr 8, 2009 09:17 AM

O lol. I was wondering what HFE and LFE was. lol. A simple google search would of figured that out. Im a dumba** lol. At least the sub was given to me and I didnt spend any money on it! I'll try a new sub a little later and see if it works. I'll get back to you.

Check the fuse under the hood on your cable going to the battery.

thats not the problem in this case because his amp has power.

does your HU have a sub on/off feature?

feh728 Apr 8, 2009 05:31 PM

Just an update, I got a RCA to headphone cord today and bypassed the HU completely with my ipod directly connected to the Amp. Sub still didnt work. I bought a new sub to try it out and switched from a bridged amp to a single channel. The sub worked perfect and is doing fine. Installed and everything is going well.

I think what ultimately happened is I blew the original sub with too much power and having it switched to full on the x-over switch instead of low frequency.

Thanks again for all your help guys. Saved me a lot of stress and annoyances!

I will be removing the pictures now that everything is fixed. Dont want any odd occurrences happening overnight here in the ghetto of Florida...j/k
