ported and sealed...

alright, so i was thinking...ported seems to really hit the deep stuff, but lack the higher freq's. and sealed hits the higher freq's and the lower ones it still hits, but not as loud as the ported..

so how would a system sound with, for example 4 10's. 2 sealed, and the other 2 ported?

you think the sealed ones would make up for the lack of higher freq response from the ported ones, and vice versa?

Problem is, I don't think you would be able to tell the difference. With 4 tens I think all you would be hearing was bass, and you really want to build your box to the specs of the subwoofer. Most likely you will be using the same brand of sub for each of the ones you are going to use so you wouldn't want different sounds for the same speaker.

A sealed box will have the lowest SPL, but will have the best sound. And a bandpass will have the highest SPL and the worst sound, but ported/vented falls right in the middle.

i had my sub ported, and it sounded great, but i hate that damn baffling air sound that the port makes, so its sealed up now.

there was always air moving around in the truck from the port, it was very odd lol..

Sealed hits all the frequencies the best, just not the loudest. A ported or bandpass is tuned for a specific frequency which it will play the loudest and will have trouble and is not designed to play the frequencies above and below the tuned ones. If you think a ported hits 'deep' try listening to a quality sealed sub setup.

An open air box will be tuned to play from high 20htz to mid/high 30htz, my sealed 12's are rated to 18htz and audibly play lower than that with flying colors.

Ported also requires alot more airspace. 4 10's ported would be a BIG box. Great for Rap, bad for general rock and roll.

I prefer sealed for their overall output, smaller space, and added longevity to the speaker. A sealed enclosure allows the air to act as suspension. Ported lets it all hang out! :)

What you want is a bandpass box. (not one of those prefab ones).

well, i already built my box for one L5, but i was just thinkin if that idea would work, for possibly a future project? haha.

i've had a dual bandpass box before, and i wasn't too impressed. my brother also has one in his explorer and it doesn't sound that great. not really loud either
