Hey, I'm wanting to add a sub to my system. Already swaped the Pioneer HU out of my old truck, and I have 2 sets of Pioneer 6x8 2 ways ready to go in.



I listen to a bit of everything, Rap, classic rock, pop, foreign stuff, a bit of classical sometimes. Don't want or need something that will rattle the cars driving next too me.I also want it to be non-obvious that I have a system on board, hopefully keep whats mine, mine.

Here's the sub and amp that have caught my eye-
Sub-
Pioneer TS-SWX2502 (tsswx2502) 1200W 10" Shallow-Mount TS Series
Amp-
Pioneer GM-A3602 GM Series 180W 2-Channel Car Amplifier

A kinda hide able( no huge, obvious boxes in the back, and it should fit down in the floor under the jump seats fine) 10" driven by a 180w rms amp seems like it should be more than enough. The total price with a wiring kit is right at what I am willing to spend too.

What do you all think?

 

You're going to power a 400w RMS sub with a 180w RMS amp?

I'd get a bigger amp that will better suit the sub.

 

Definitely get a bigger amp for that sub. You need something closer to the 400 RMS mark than 180

 

So the sub won't work if I power it with less than full RMS?

Guess i'll grab this instead.

Or should I choose a sub that "wants" a lower RMS Wattage? I'm not going to amp my 6x8's,just going to run them off of the HU (22w rms), will a 400w 10" overpower them?

 

It will work, but not as good as it can.

 

If you are afraid of it being overpowering, turn the amp gain down a little. Also, why not look into 1 channel amps instead of bridging a 2 channel?

 

I`ve mainly been looking at 2channel amps because they seem to be cheaper for the rated wattage.

Thanks for the info about the gain, dident know you could adjust that. Never had a car with a sub, so i wasnt sure what to expect.

 

With a 1 channel amp you get more reliability. The 2 channel amps are normally class a or b l. A 1 channel will be a class d, which is made for subs and for the higher power needed. Try looking on the pioneer website and then searching the part number of the one you want on eBay. That's what I did and I've got a little over $500 in my subs with everything, but I think mine's a little flashier than what you're wanting

 

Installed the sub today. So glad I went with the 450w amp. Sounds fantastic.

Nice dude! I have a 10 inch alpine type s with a 1000 watt kenwood mono amp that bumps pretty hard. I bet yours sounds dope!

 

I'd sure look into an additional amp for your 6X9s. You'd be amazed at the additional dynamic range you'll pull out of your speakers with more power going to them and you really don't have to spend much to make it happen.
