no power to new stereo

ok so recently some little kid decided that he liked my stereo and ipod. so he broke my door lock and took it.
i replaced the lock and moved on to stereo. i bought a stereo and the harnesses that everyone recommends. matched up all wires spliced using red connector. the stereo is not recieving power. so i check the ground wire and red wire/yellow wire to see if they had been cut. nope. just not getting power to it.
where do i start. and when is it time to take it to a audio place?

make sure that none of the wires slipped when using the butt connectors, my friend had the same problem and his ground just slipped far enough out to where there was no connection... and if that doesn't work try to make sure that all of the plug ins are connected securely ( i know it sounds simple but trust me it happens) and i would make sure to check all of the fuses in the system again
