why not pu a 6.5" speaker in there as there are more options as far as speakers and in some cases the same model of speaker is cheaper in a 6.5 over the 6x9

6x8 and 6x9, you cant tell the difference unless your amping them with over 100w per speaker they can hold more power thats it and if your just using a stock radio or cheap 4 channel u wont be able to tell the difference

I didn't know that Rangers had 6x8's when I got new Infinity 6x9's a few years back. Needless to say, I was a bit upset when I tried to install them and they were too big. After some cutting and pounding I finally got them in. It was the rear speakers that were the biggest pain. If I remember correctly, the fronts went in with no problems.

i did some store to store professional asking. lol.
5x7 and 6x8 are exactly the same. belive me. the speaker size is the friggin same. the MOUTING points are a lil different. but the speaker is the same. 6x9 basicly sound the same as a 6x8. and I am going to buy a 2 pairs of Alpine 6x8's 159$Type R 100Watters. with a 4 channel amp. otherwise the Type S 99$(Only 50 Watts) Are fine WITHOUT an amp.

I put a set of sony x-plod 6x9s in my 4door 06FX4.

All 4 required cutting. The fronts more than the rears.

btw, IMO it was well worth it. The increase in bass was significant! Would highly recommend it to anyone who wants to keep the stock HU.

Ok. but the general Idea of this? If your a Mod nut for sound. chances are, you have an AMP and a SUB . so the four lil speakers incircling your truck are basicly midi and trebble type tweeters. Leave bass to subs where it belongs lol. i mean seriously. if your going as far as cutting into the sheetmetal and overstuffing the speaker into the spaces, looking for BASS out of the speakers is the least of the problems.

^Chances are if he kept the stock HU he doesn't have subs.

Thats true to. but "Chances are" a Stock Head unit doesnt put out anymore than 18 watts rms and so the 6x9 swap would be worthless anyways.

Ive already completely decided against them now, the only way i would suggest them is if its for serious enthusiasts than want larger speakers. have like 2 amps and know how to cut holes into there truck. otherwise just mount it into a lil kicker box. but even still. An Amp would be better for you even with STOCk speakers.

Hell, all you EVER need in a ranger 4dr is 4 6x8's, 50w's with a4x50watt amp stuck in under your seat, with the optional Sub if youw ant the extr akick.. the cab is so small, the only reason youd go for anything mroe is to impress everyone a block around you.. and at that point you cant even pay attention to teh music and the road at the same time, lol

I have news for all of you, the 6x9's do make a difference in the Ranger. I've had higher end 5x7's (polk and infinity) in my truck, and made the switch to mid-end 6x9's (pioneer). Both times I used the same setup, 4 ch amp with Alpine head unit and EQ, you can definitely tell the difference between the 6x9s and the 5x7's, or 6x8's, whatever you want to call them. It doesn't give you bass like you'd get from a subwoofer, but you get much better mid range, and better low range than the smaller speakers.

MIKE, in this case, its not about wanting everyone on the block to hear me, its about wanting a better quality to my music without having to take up any space in the back of my truck. Not everybody with a sound system is out to make themselves deaf and the neighbors annoyed.

Yep, I woudl love to go for a nice enclosure.. but thats the problem with them, an enclosure takes up much needed space, epecialyl for winter if Im hauling around a couple passengers, along with my snow gear.. Im suddenly out of room, and if I drop a 10" enclosure into the back it woudl fry me big time. I'll have to look into some 6x9's perhaps, right now my current setup is stock, needing to update a few things around the house before I sink some more money into my pickup.. gotta love housekeeping :-(

Winks is correct.

It made a significant difference on mine. I'm not a kid and don't listen to music really loud like.. um.. how do I say this nicely?.. Um.. well you punks! (j/k)

All I can say is that if your happy with the standard HU and want to have more volume. The 6x9 speaker upgrade is well worth it.

btw, I have a 01 eldorado w/the factory bose system in it. My ranger now has more bass than does the eldo. It'll shake the outside and inside mirrors on deep drum beats. And that's pretty good IMO. One day I'll add a sub and amp. But this is pretty good as-is.
