Box Design.
I have been looking around alot at Standard Cab truck box designs and i think they pretty much suck. These are boxes that are designed and sold by companies, not any homemade boxes. Well, not all. Anyways, I have added to a post on RPS about a week or so ago about an idea for a box design and i think i am going to build and sell.
Will kind of look like this, but with speakers in the rear.
This is a VERY rough idea of the box and how i am going to build it. There are quite a few changes i am going to make, but basically, the speaker (or speakers, i iwll have a 2 sub design also) will be facing the rear of the truck.
I hurt my back this past weekend trying to get things out of storage and out of my father in laws shed to get this going because i want to build a test box first and try it out in my truck to see how well it sounds and so on. (One reason i didnt get items shipped i have, could barely move my fat **** cause of pain).
Anyways, I will post the specs of the box for people that would want to build their own, if they are interested.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Don't forget amp racks, as you may not be able to fit them under the seats. Also rear facing subs may have interference problems with the rear wall, unless you go with grills or flush mount them enough that the sub excusion won't contact anything.
BUT then you're got almost an psudo iso baric setup. (The airspace between the cone and wall will act as a separate air suspension but with a less perfect seal). This could really hamper the sub's ability to move freely. Sealed enclosures can handle more power than related ported boxes, with both sides of the cone acting "sealed" could pose a problem.
I recommend gettings grills, and facing the subs to the front, then you can basically lay the seats back against the grill. The seats themselves will allow much more air to move through than the rear wall.
But aside from that, looks like you've got just about every nook and crany accounted for. Ever think about removing some of that plastic trim and stock speaker locations? Harder to pull off, but that's about the only thing more you can do.

The rear speaker wont be directly up against the rear of the truck. There will be space for it to move. I do not know alot about how boxs work with subs, but i figured i would try and conquer the worst problem, in my eyes, that standard cab trucks have and thats loss of leg room.
I have even thought about using the same design i have and just setting it up so that the sub is in the center of the truck. I dont like the 'back massage' i get from my thunderform.
Really, i figure this. I build the box and see what it dounds like. If it sounds better than my thunderform, i keep it and sell the thunderform. If it doesnt, then i count it as a loss and throw it away or maybe try and sell on Ebay.
As for amps, i didnt think about that. I am glad you pointed it out. I do have mine under the seat right.

Well, I plan to build the box in the next couple of weeks. I see that youre close by. Maybe I can buy you some lunch or something and we can butt heads together and see what we can come up with. PM if you would be willing to do that.
I used to have an 86 Chevy truck 4x4 standard cab. I built the box and ported it back when i was like 18 or 19. I guess i got lucky on box size and ports cause it was VERY loud. Granted i was running 2 tens, but i was running 2 cheap subs. It makes me sad that my better system in my ranger isnt as loud.
