Replacing door speakers, choices
 

So I've blown 2 of my Alpine S series door speakers after 6 years of abuse. The audio shopped that I got them from were surprised they lasted as long as they did.

So I need new speakers. I don't want to spend too much money. But here's speakers I've found on Crutchfield. Let me know what you guys think. Or any better suggestions.

I'm partial to the Alpines because they sounded great and lasted quite a while under abuse. But the Polk's have good reviews

I'd go with whatever best fits your budget, and something with an RMS high enough for your amp. I'm sure you already know, but don't buy from Crutchfield. Retardedly overpriced and you can usually find much much better deals from companies such as Sonic Electronix which is a great company with much better pricing.

Another question. Any big difference between 2 way and 3 way?

No, not unless you are talking about component speakers.

In fact is probably better to stay away from anything other than 2-way coaxial speakers, the more crossover points you have the better the chances are for distortion. 2-way is fine, 3-way 4-way is basically just marketing.

Id say now that you've had your fun with the coax speakers, you might want to look into the nice improvement that component speakers can bring.

Do I have to use a different amp for component speakers?

I had always planned on doing an upgrade for the speakers, but If I get the internship I'm applying for then I'll be buying the g/f a ring, so speakers will have to wait

Let me first say I am no audiophile and only through checking and rechecking the web and talking, to guys in the know, have I decided to go the route I am on.

I am sticking to Pioneer, I like to keep things simple and similar to the Head Unit.

Pioneer TSP682, 6"x8" 2-Way 150W Car Speakers (these are similar to the OEM/Pioneer Option) Two speakers in the same frame but not inside of themselves. Simple not sure of the sound but the OEM/Pioneer Unnits sound OK.

Yes use an AMP for the speakers it should make them sound better, clearer, and better highs and lows.
Get either four channel or a five ch AMP, the four ch is for the four speaker that are usually in the vehcile (2 frt and 2 rear) and a five ch is the same and also has output for a sub.

Not sure on an AMP yet, still talking to people and looking, need a small compact and not too powerful unit and may be a 5-ch unit.

As to where to buy, not Crutchfield, their pricing is high, some peopel like all of the talk but when it comes at a price I am not really sure.

"Sonic Electronix" is good, “On Line Car Stereo” and "6th Ave electronics" all good and prices are lower than the big guy.

I have an amp already.

Component speakers are just out of my price range right now. If it wouldn't have been for blowing a second speaker I could have waited till I saved the money.

With marriage and graduation drawing near I need to watch what I spend money on.

As far as I know they are good speakers… those are for the rear correct ?
Next time at the JY, find an Explorer Sport, and look to see if it has the Pioneer Head Unit, if it does check out the front speakers, they should be the type that has a separate Tweeter and Mid-Range in the same housing and it fits in the std 6x8 opening in the front door.

I have a set in my Ranger right now and they sound pretty good with a stock head unit.


The everyday explorers do not have the Pioneer Units but if you can check out the speakers by taking off the door panels and see what is there, you will see two speakers side by side.
These OEM/Pioneer Speaker with the Alpines should sound good with a stock or lower power head unit.

Well it turns out my Alpine S speakers that I had were not blown. It was the amp that was blown. The audio shop I went to tested it.

I had already bought the new Alpine S speakers, so I got a JL Audio amp to power them.

Couldn't be happier, except I have a ground loop I can't find. Doesn't matter now, I'll fix it later

I just installed alpines and I love them

Look into Infinity Reference's. I have two 6.5's in my single cab and love them.
