what kind of mids? are you talking like door speakers, or 8"s? Either way they'll sound a lot better with an amp.

Try them out just being hooked up to the HU. Then if you want more, then amp them.

whats the RMS ratings on the mids you are getting? its a safe bet that your deck only puts out about 15-20 watts RMS per channel. its usually not enough to power aftermarket speakers. I believe they purposely do this so people aren't blowing up their factory speakers and causing them grief on their support lines.

Most decks put out the maximum wattage they can from their 12 volt power supply. And that's somewhere around 20-25 watts RMS per channel. To make any more wattage you have to up the voltage, which is what an amp does.

You mean up the wire guage? you could either up the voltage or up the current to make more wattage, but in the case of car stereos you would have to up the current at 12v to make more watts along with the various elec. internals. but you're right I retract my last statement now that I think about it. you can only pull so much current through the factory wire harness.

but to answer Jeremy's question ... I would look at the RMS rating of your mids (what did you get btw?) and decide if your feeding them enough power. Your head unit puts out somewhere between 15-25 watts RMS (Tell me what model you have and ill tell you for sure)

I've been searching for a good 4 channel amp fo ra while, found a couple - but just waiting on prices..

Are there such thigns as class D 4 ways by the way? I have only found single channel ones and 5 channel ones.. all usually meant for subs and not runnign speakers :-( The ones I want to buy for my main speakers are all Class AB

For sure you want to amp the speakers. They sound a 100 times more crisp and clear than just hooking them up to your deck. I had a Phoenix Gold 4x50 amp and it worked perfectly and it wasn't to expensive.
