Speaker Baffles or Not?

Do you guys use speaker baffles? I've been doing some shopping on Crutchfield and they recommend some foam speaker baffles but I'm not sure if I need to use them or not.

XTC 5"x7" Speaker Baffles Protect your speakers at Crutchfield.com

Thanks

i wouldnt say they are necessary but they sure wouldnt hurt to have. I personally have never used them but have never had one problem with rattling noises or the speakers getting wet. If you feel like buying them go for it, probably will benefit the speakers.

Looks like kind of a waste of money, unless you have a leak....

Kinda looks like a waste of money. They say they keep them dry when in all reality they shouldn't be wet anyhow unless your sunk in a mud hole with about 3ft of water and in that case if they get wet those are not going to do any good cuz it will be in the front of speaker and everythinng

I tried them once on my old ranger and did not see how they helped at all, I got some Dynamat and did my door panels on the new ranger, pricey but much better.

I picked up a set with my infinity kappa's. They don't do much, so I won't be adding a set whenever I do the rears.

I put them in my Toyota about 10 years ago. They helped some, but were a PITA to install. If you have some kind of sound deadening, Dynamat, Second skin, something like that it would do a lot more good. But now you talking about a good deal more money than the $9 for the baffles. So I guess you get what you pay for.

Ok I'm definitely not going to get baffles. Just wanted to check with some more knowledgeable people first. Thanks

I got them in my fronts and I haven't noticed much of a difference, I probably won't get them again.

yeah don't get em. Got a pair for my front speakers (Infinity Refs) and something else must be wrong because my speakers sound like **** in the midbass frequency range. Theyre distorting really bad. So the baffles are obviously doing nothing.
You'd probably be better off just using some nylon or rubber washers

the best thing that you can do with your $9 would to buy a small square of dynamat/secskin and dampen/seal off the rim of the mounting hole. the more you can seal off the front of the speaker from the back of the speaker the better. preferably you want to seal up the whole door. many car speaks are made for infinite baffle installs. when you constrict its air space when it shouldn't be, it can cause distortion.

I have a set of Inf. refs without the baffles and they are rocking a healthy amount of mid-bass\range running off of a alpine 50x4 bridged, gains just barely above minimum. no dampening. are you running an amp?
