New stereo install (brand recommendations)

I am looking to upgrade my whole stereo system in my pickup. I plan to put in a JVC head unit with HD. I like JVC as I put in one of their cheapest models in my wifes car and it works flawlessly.

I definitely want HD on my stereo and want it to be on the more inexpensive side so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If they work for you and you don't need many features, then by all means.. stick with it. JVC is one of the only companies that offer a low cost built-in HD Radio unit. but it does lack other features.
How is that hd radio btw. Ive been wanting to try that. Sirius radio sounds horrible on decent system. If I wanted to listen to compressed dog **** I could just convert my music to 128kbps mp3s. /rant

Do you have any plans for expanding your system later down the road? Plan for it now if you are. some things you might need,
Crossovers, are important to have on any system many units don't offer that.
Equalizers are important for shaping the sound to your liking and for tuning out peaks and dips in frequency response.
T/A, Time alignment is great if you have component speakers. since components are separated at different distances the sound can hit your ears at different times, t/a fixes that. which cleans up the sound and focuses the sound stage.
Memory card, usb, bluetooth.

Sometimes its nice to try other brands you might find something that you like better.
kenwood, pioneer, clarion, all offer great features on their entry level receivers. alpine not so much.

Amazon has a jvc HD adpater that will plug into any headunit. Its only $30 so that could be an option too. Maybe a unit you like has some features you want but no HDr, you could just use one of those.
