couple of questions
ok i just bought my ranger today and was lookin to put my radio that i had in my car in my new truck. It's an 04 i geuss basic ranger, i don't want no alarms or eynthing locking it up if i yank out that regular radio and also anyone recommend a good Alarm/keyless start for a manual shift pickup

i thought it wasnt legal to have them on manuals cause of the safety risk involved??? any legit installer would say no to installing one on a manual..
also, wasn't sure what you were asking about putting the radio in your truck.. are you asking if there's anything that might interfere with installing it???

if you know wut you are doing then the radio is a piece of cake to put in and wont mess with anything. i have mine hardwired in as i was too cheap and lazy to pay 10 bucks on a harness. it works beautifully and was done with a professional quality(i am a professional cuz i saw it on the internet, jokin jokin)
but yea, ive asked about remote starts in numerous places and everyone came back with the same answer, they are illegal so they wont install it. i think the remote start is your standard system...you just have to mod something about it to make it work and a manual tranny.

yeah there not illegal here in mississippi, my freind has one in his acura and it's a stick but it didn't know if they made one for a truck, but yeah the only deal is (after talking to installer today) i'd have to sign a waiver but i'm going to forget the remote start and get a my cd player in, I was just asking if there was any like alarm or system shut down like in chevys that would like lock up things cuase my friend did it in his grand prix gt and it locked up and had to get the dealership to take it out but I know how to install just wasn't sure about my truck since it's the first one i've had since my 85 s-10

yeah some auto makers like to incorporate alot of the car's electrical stuff in with the headunit and causes the whole process to be a pain in the ***.. luckily ford hasn't done anything like that with our trucks. you can go ahead and pull the factory radio out and put in your new one, nothing will be shut down.

Why on earth would a remote start be ILLEGAL on a vehicle w/ a manual trans. What 'safety risks' are you all talking about?
My friend at work had an alarm system w/ remote start installed on his WRX. There were no questons asked or papers to sign, it's aparently quite common. Remote starts are quite popular up here where it gets cold in the winter. He tells me there's some sort of lockout where the thing will only start if the shifter is in neutral. He has a system w/ a two way remote (Cliford?) and it will just refuse to remote start if he forgets and leaves it in gear. I always leave the truck in gear and would constantly have that problem. He assures me that after a few weeks you get right into the habit of always firmly setting the brake and never leaving it in gear..

^^^wow, i have never heard of a system with that safety feature. most systems dont have it and if you leave it in gear and start her up then the vehicle will jump and possibly injure someone. the installer can be held liable if something like that happens. i may research that system bubba...i never knew sumthing like that existed until now.

When I said sign papers, I meant so that the person would not go back to the shop (had an accident occur) and sue for something as frivolous as not telling them that the car will move if left in gear (duh!).
Remote start are very popular around here, I have one on my truck (remote start + alarm in one) and I know a few others that have them too.

remote starts are few and far between around here cuz no one understands the point in them or sumthin. i always leave my truck in gear cuz my dad kept telling me to when he was teaching me to drive so it became a habit to just shut her off, set the brake, and get out. so i know id forget to pull her out of gear and just as someone was walking in front of the truck(got ****** that dont care and almost touch the vehicles as they walk by, but they are avoiding the people who do 30 in the parking lot of a school that holds more people then a town) id say to my friends,"hey yall, watch this" and the person dies or breaks sumthin
bubba, you think you could find out who makes that remote start with the safety feature? much obliged.

yeah if you get one, make sure to get that feature that colin was talkin about.. its a smart feature honestly. many shops don't like installing any of the regular remote starters because people leave thier cars in gear constantly, go to start it, and bam.. the car jumps in one direction or another.
