I just wanted to share my old school Boston Acoustics 6.5 ProSeries install.

They may be old, but they're still loud, crisp and clean as the day I bought them. The 6.5's were never abused. They are driven by the stock stereo for now until I have time to install my Eclipse head unit.

Compared to stock, the sound stage widened and the vocals centered. I installed Boston Acoustics S85's in the rear which complemented the fronts VERY well. You can notice the sound stage shift slightly when the rear speakers were faded in, but not to the point where the it moves behind you. The S85's were not overpowering.

The factory sound deadening material is covering the dynamat I installed on both doors. I sound deadening spray on the rest of the cab (3 layers). The only time it's seen is when the rear jump seat is lowered and you notice a black section below the crossover.

Do not spray sound deadener at night. Use it in a well lit area. I had over spray in areas I thought I could avoid
The spray is easy/quick to install, but can be a mess to clean if you get it on areas you don't want.

Nice clean install. Did you make the speaker brackets yourself? what did you use for them.
Did the speaker gills not fit afterwords, or did you just leave them off. what sound damp spay did you use.

you have got to be getting an amp for those, right? they just look like they would be starving for power.
The factory head unit wont even power the factory speakers properly. those bostons have to be distorting from the lack of power, no?

As a matter of fact, I did fabricate the brackets myself. I used the stock speaker as a templete; marked the original mounting holes and centered my 6 1/2 on the bracket and trimmed away using 1/4" MDF. A bolt and nylon lock nut was used to secure the speaker to the bracket. The MDF is too thin to use wood screws.

The Boston grills are behind the door panels. I got away with this by trimming some plastic behind the door that runs along the slits on the door panel
I used Cascade VB-1X Vblok sound damping spray on the floor and rear of the cab.

The stock head unit does not do the speakers justice. An amplifier has been ordered and will be installed when it comes in along with the head unit.
