Nice speakers or sub(s)
well ive got an "extra" $150 to spend and ive been kinda beating around the bush with buying subs because ive been going back and forth between buying 4 nice speakers or getting a single 10" sub and box.. which would you personaly get? My freinds got a cheap Legacy amp that im sure hell give me for cheap, so i would definatly amplifiy my speakers, but im doubtfull that the amp will give me the sound i want out of a sub, so i will end up getting a new one with the subs....
so jsut give me your advice about what to get, i just want to make the choice ill be happy with...

Just remember, you always get what you pay for. If I were in your shoes, I'd save some more and buy yourself some quality component speakers, followed by an amp for them. You'll get a lot of opinions about this, but I'd rather have a high quality amp powering my high quality speakers before I worry about a sub/amp.

i have an infinity kappa perfect 10.1 sub and a jl audio powerwedge box up for 150. they sub retails for like 240 or something and the box is like 80. i got new subs and dont have a need for them anymore. they are used for only bout 3 months and are still in perfect condition. go to infinitys website to check the specs. it hit real hard. let me know if your interested at all ill give you pics. anywho..

A sub is a good way to go... but having really good sounding trebble and and midrange is the way to go first. You might not even want a sub after that. I say save up alittle more and go for a nice set of components. You might not even have to amplify them, depending on how they sound to you.

FoMoCoEdge What do you drive?
ive already got the size diffrences figured out...

i spent about 600 total on my system, check the signature...if your only spending 150 go with the speakers, but if you can wait and save, i would definately get the sub because once you get a sub with a cd player, you can turn all the bass off in your door speakers and have bass from the sub, this makes it so you can cut it up loud and its very clear!

I'd replace all of it. You can't get the bass without the sub, and you can't get the highs without a decent set of components. All the sound processing in the world doesn't make up for substandard speakers. As someone else mentioned, replace the head unit too. I know it sounds like a lot but it is well worth it; you will not be disappointed. A good head unit with some time correction will also adjust your soundstage and bring it up from the floor.
