Speakers Sound Awful

I just hooked up a pair of Infinity 6x9's in the back of my regular cab truck to replace the old ones. The truck is a 98 2dr. I hooked up the wiring according to the Sticky posted at the top of this category and my speakers sound awful. It sounds like they are extremely underpowered. They have no low end at all but the high end is decent. I'm running the factory deck and factory fronts too. Any input?

You must have them hooked up wrong. Try reversing the wires. And the stock stereos don't suck, mine sounds great with my Pioneer 3-ways.

They're 3 way. If i hooked them up wrong than the sticky is wrong? Does anyone know what colors go to which polarity? Thanks.

You can give it a try, it shouldnt be that much work to switch them around.

Switch all 4 or just play with it? I don't want to wreck anything not that it would but who knows? I hate to cut and re solder everything. If it's not that than what do you think?

Wait until you get that aftermarket stereo in. You will see what I mean.

Your probably way underpowering your infinitys. Don't they usually start at around 80 watts rms with that brand? Your stock deck is putting no where near that much power.

Just went and looked some infinitys up at crutchfield and the lowest rms power for 6X9 was 2-100 watts rms. If you want to get your speakers to sound good, you should get closer to the upper end of the rms range, right now your near the very bottom.

Yeah I figured this was heading that way. I just wanted others opinions on whether it was a power issue or a connection issue. I think i'm going with you on this one and am going to go grab a new deck. Any Preferred decks anyone? Looking around the 300CDN Range with Blue Lighting. Thanks.

What about the FH-P8000BT) by Pioneer. I kind of like the way it might fit to replace the old receiver.

Low power output doesnt make a speaker sound bad. If this were true every time you turned down the volume the speakers would sound worse.

Are you sure that you have all of the speakers wired up with the same polarity?

I had the speakers hooked up in my Cavalier about 4 weeks ago and they were awesome. I also tried some sony 6x9 3 way speakers and they sounded the same. I've played with the polaritys and always come up with the same sound. I'm getting kind of pissed off now lol. Thinking about taking out the stereo and checking for sure which the positive and negs are. Any other suggestions?

Mhhmmm

Who Ever Told You That By Buying Better Speakers You Would Get More Loudness???? The Stereo You Have Is Only Stock And Design To Give Your Speakers Only A Lil Bit Of Power So If You Get Better Speakers You Will Hear More Clarity And Sound But Of Course Thats Only Because The New 6x9's Actually Do Have A Tweeter And Maybe A Bigger Magnet But Not Because Your Rms Power Went Up It You Really Want To Bump The **** Out Of Those 6x9's Then Try Throwing In A Deck Even A Cheap One And An Amp And You Will See What Those Infinitys Can Really Do Believe Me You'll Be More Then Impressed...

Also try this. When I switched to Polk 5X7s in my truck, I noticed the same loss of bump. What caused it for me, is that the polks didnt fit the hole in the door as well, so they were operating as in free air. I sealed up the hole around the speaker better, and it sounds pretty good. Now on my back speakers, the way they are mounted there's no way to seall 'em up, so yeah, they suck, but so did the factories back there. My stock system had most of the sound comming from the front.

i agree then it could be the radio The factory radio is decent but nothing compared to the difference u will notice from a good quality aftermarket radio. Try reversing the wires but it really wont sound that different. U couldnt even tell on my pioneers. We just turned up the bass and looked at how they were firing. Dont blow the speakers they arent made to be like subs. If u have a test light use it.
